Nucleus+ experiencing severe slowness and loading delays (ref#9NAA2Q)

Yes, it still can take a minute or more to see an album page when I click on it. I sent a video documenting this. I usually see this in the morning. I can load 3-4 albums into a play list and then i will get the slowdown. it started months ago after an update and believe it is software related. it makes using Roon unpleasant, and it worked beautifully for years until now.

I just tried it on my iPad and had the delay as well after 6 album selections.

So I doubt it is in the remotes.

I would think others have reported this, and that it is not unique to my setup. I had a Bluesound system for years. never saw any delays. Everything was instant.

I hope you guys can find it. I would think the logs would reveal the problem.

Logs revel repeated network errors, that could be playing a role in your performance dips. For your Araknis router, do you have QoS settings enabled?

You can log into the router’s management interface (default IP is often 192.168.1.1) and check for QoS settings under the “System” or “Traffic Management” section. Here you can prioritize your Nucleus, which may help speed things up. :+1:

Thanks… doubt that is the problem. I have a lot of other time sensitive things on the network, like a video server… it has no issues… responds immediately when under a load. Please keep looking…

Can you please confirm if the latest Roon release changed any behavior on your end? There were a few performance fixes that may have helped.

It was well behaved this afternoon… no delays, but I usually see this at first use in the AM.

I’m out of town until Saturday and will try again then. What sort of thigns did you fix?

took a quick look this morning… added 14 albums to a playlist with no hangups. Seems like you are on to something,. Will do more testing when I’m back in town this weekend.

Back in town and tried again. With great excitement I added 6 albums to my playlist with no issue. Sadly, album 7 hung in the usual way. Finally loaded 45 seconds after I clicked on it.

I’m sorry to hear you’re still experiencing issues. It’s worth noting that comparing Roon’s performance to other systems on your network doesn’t necessarily rule out potential network-related throttling. Roon, like any high-fidelity audio playback system, often requires more consistent bandwidth than even video streaming.

I’d give the above another look and see if it may help you - we’ll be on standby for your results.

I will take a look, but my network performs very well, doing far more difficult tasks than displaying an album page. This issue started after a Roon update, and has persisted. Coincidence? Maybe. But I never get music dropouts, or video droputs from a video server. There is something on the Roon server, or in your software.

Hi @Mel_Martin, sorry hear of your frustration. The team mentions network errors. You seem to have decent networking equipment - however there can be simple things like failing cables, failing network ports etc. that can derail us. Simple things that can escape our attention. For a test, are you able to connect your Roon server directly to your router - with a new network cable. Have it as the only device connected for a run of albums and see if that makes any difference. The only way to troubleshoot a situation is to physically rule it out.

If it were network, I’d see other instances… sure, I can replace network cables, but as someone who ran a $65 million dollar IT project for the BBC, my team would be looking at logs. They would capture the time it happened, and figure it out.

Seems to me you’re taking the long way round.

Took 50 seconds to load a CD page at 9:20:30 AM Mountain time today. These are local files sitting on the server. Usually happens at first use in the AM. Then will work for rest of the day. This was the third album clicked on as I tried to make a playlist. Arvo Pärt: Music for Unaccompanied Choir.

Are you turning it off at night?

No. Like the other servers around here it’s on all the time. None of the other servers exhibit this behavior. (Video server, Bluesound server.) Let me also note I’m on a gigabit ethernet network jere. Last week I replaced all my cables with new, high quality ones.

Here’s another one. from this morning. 8:49:30 MST. 1 minute to load Hovhaness: Celestial Gate. Always happens at first run, this was the 5th disc loaded into a playlist. Logs should reveal the problem.

Another problem loading. At 8:15:10 AM MST took around 50 seconds to load Vincent Persichetti: Divertimenti for Winds. First album I clicked on. Please fix.

9:25:35 MST… another delay loading. Symphony 46 this morning. .
