I purchased Nucleus ONE a couple of days ago and fitted a Samsung EVO 970 1TB internal drive.
I wanted to COPY my existing music files to the internal storage, rather than adding new folders which I understand still leaves the tracks in their original location.
I dragged and dropped my folders onto the internal storage. However, for reasons I don’t understand, the copying was carried out in 5 minute chunks, each 5 minute chunk created a new folder on the internal storage.
The result is that all my music files are now on the internal structure, but because of the folders that were set up, one for every 5 minutes, it is impossible to identify my original folders when searching in ROON under folders.
Would appreciate any guidance if I am doing something wrong.
Would appreciate guidance on how I can copy my music folders onto the internal storage in such a way that my music folders are identifiable in Roon folders.
Don’t drag and drop albums onto the Roon window, but use the second method given in this help article to copy the album folders across to internal storage and maintain the names and structures.
Don’t forget to delete the folders set up under method #1 - they will be listed under the Roon Imports folder.
I was dragging and dropping onto the Internal Storage folder, accessed from ROON?
Ended up with this really weird folder within the Internal Storage, of a folder for every five minutes of transfer.
Will re-format the Internal Storage and transfer as directed in the help article
Apparently the Nucleus One has a second M.2 slot for the Samsung EVO 970 1TB internal drive. I though the only choice was the SATA drives for internal storage. Interesting.
Whoops, sorry about the typo- it is indeed an 870 and not a 970.
Unfortunately I am still stuck - when I open explorer and type in \NucleusOne\Data\Storage\InternalStorage
I get a message refusing me access.
I have set all the correct requirements in Network Settings and even done the registry edit that is suggested in several posts about the problem but still no go.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get past this?
All sorted
Carried out the instructions on this page from ROON helps -
Enable SMBv1
Go to Turn Windows Features On or Off, check SMBv1, and enable it. You’ll need to reboot your machine in order to fully apply the change.
Enable Insecure Guest Logons
Open Local Group Policy Editor and navigate to Computer Configurations > Administrative Templates > Network > Lanman Workstation. Select Enable insecure guest logons and set it to Enabled.
This sets up a folder when I now type in \NucleusOne\Data\Storage\InternalStorage (Am aware in my previous post I only put \NucleysOne etc, rather than \)
I can then drag my music folders from my PC into this folder and they are then stored on the internal storage with my original file structure.
Hope this solution helps anybody else having similar problems
FYI and for future readers, Roon OS has supported SMB v2 for years, and enabling SMB 1 is not necessary.
What most likely fixed your issue was enabling the insecure guest logons in Windows. Microsoft has step by step turned this off in various Windows versions (starting with Enterprise versions) for many months, and with the recent Win 11 24H2 update pushed this to at least some (and maybe all) personal/home Windows versions. You can find more about this on this Microsoft webpage:
Note that they prefer solutions where authenticated access with username/password is enabled where possible, such as on NAS, but this is not yet possible on Roon OS - Roon Labs is aware and they have stated somewhere that they are working on a solution. Until then, allowing “guest” access in the Windows client is necessary, and this starts at step #6 on the linked page.
