and there is a long tradition of rip-off Britain to uphold!
Could be worse, you could live in Sydney and have to pay much more!
Never mind, I don’t want to get banned for getting political.
Well it wouldn’t be the same without you here Jim, good idea to
Delivered in UK this morning with a few more toys. 5 minutes set up. Hopefully a few others have had their early Xmas present too.
Very nice
I bought a pair of the Dali Opticon 1 mk 2 early this year as they would fit in my Ikea unit. Having had a couple of Dali speakers before and still owning the Oberon V, I am still in awe of the small Opticons and how good they sound and the amount of bass they produce whilst on Isoacoustics speaker stands.
Hopefully you are already enjoying your setup already.
Though I will be interested in your thoughts as to if the WIIM amp has enough power to bring out the best from the Opticon 1 mk 2.
I got mine today too. I hadn’t even thought about getting a hard drive for it yet! I need to do a little research to work out how much storage would be best. Unless, of course, someone jumps in here and just tells me.
On the US roon store I found this, so maybe I’ll just go for 8TB:
“Easily add internal music storage with the Nucleus One. The server features an easily accessible 2.5” drive tray, allowing you to add internal SATA storage of up to 8TB in just a few simple steps. Perfect for audiophile collectors, this enables you to keep your entire music library neatly organized in one location, eliminating the need for a NAS and streamlining your system."
Just be aware that the Roon Labs text may be assuming an 8TB SSD rather than an HDD. It’s not clear to me how much physical room there is in a Nucleus One. The help articles still only refer to the rev A and B of the original Nucleus models…
Yes, I noticed that about the help articles. I was just going to opt for an SSD, but maybe I should consider an HDD, and put the Nucleus to somewhere where the noise won’t bother me.
I suspect I’ll go for the SSD though.
I should open the box and have a look at what’s inside!
If you choose an SSD, get the QVO technology - better bang for the buck and perfectly good for storing music (a read-mostly scenario)…
Oh, thank you @Geoff_Coupe . I’ll read up.
Interesting. I was thinking about stands as the Wiim and Dalis are a desktop solution for background music as I work /monitoring what I’m working on. Which Isoscoustics model did you go for?
I was sceptical if the Wiim would have enough power to drive them at 4 ohms. In fact I went into audition the 8 ohm Fyne F300is with the Wiim, but the Opticons were in the same demo room and a similar size (at over twice the price). The Fyne in isolation were good enough for the money but the Opticons were on another level especially for NFM. I also auditioned the Oberon, same house sound as the Opticon but a little less refined while being bigger. At home, the Wiim won’t be pushed beyond 50-60% volume as a desktop system and bass below 70hz is handed off to a Rel T Zero. It sounds great, preferable at close distance to the Kef LSX IIs I’d borrowed form another room. Playing with Wiim’s Room eq, not sure about it yet. I have another system in the same room (Klipsch Heresy 3, subs, Line Magnetic 845 amp) which sounds comparatively huge but I could honestly live with the smaller set up most the time.
Thanks Nadeem for such detailed feedback
I bought the IsoAcoustics Iso-Stand Series Speaker Isolation Stands and I have been very happy with them. They seem to work really well with the Opticons especially in a tight environment where the IKEA units don’t seem have much weight. I have the Isoacoustics Gai II on my main listening room Spendor D7.2 speakers and they even convinced my sceptical wife of the benefits from a couple of listening sessions and she chose that we would keep them.
I also compared the Opticon 1 MK2 to the KEF LSX II and LS Metas and thought the Opticon were better for my use. Great to know that the WIIM amp has what is needed for driving these speakers.
Hopefully you continue to have fun and enjoy the new setup
Now in the UK - but when will the Nucleus One be ready for shipping to the rest of Europe?
The webpage says expected delivery January 2025…
…but why in 2025, when it is shipping to UK right now?
January 2025 is four weeks away. Perhaps the container ship from China docked in the UK first?
….well. Next stop for the containership - Rotterdam, maybe?
But allright… wee’l have to wait
That’s a good point, but do note also that the QVO has a 3-year warranty, the EVO a 5-year. In the UK, at least.
Mind you, if it lasts 3 years, in a RO environment, it’s not likely to then immediately fail.
