I wanted to followup with anyone that followed my repair inquiry from 4/15 titled: Nucleus Plus Rev B Not Connecting to Network - Requesting Repair Cost (ref#1TBSS7)
Roon got back to me saying they were unable to service my Nucleus+ due to insufficient part quantities to service any units other than those that were currently under warranty. I’m very disappointed in the lack of support from a company I very much respected, but, it is what it is. It seems as though the unit needs a motherboard replacement but Roon doesn’t have one to sparel. I don’t know if Roon plans to email me if one becomes available or not. In the meantime, if anyone out there can help I would certainly be appreciative.
Thank you for this follow up. I needed the motherboard replaced on my Nucleus+ Rev B last year and now know it will be my last of its kind. I am sorry you didn’t grab one when yours died and wish you all the luck in acquiring a replacement!
Thanks for the information, Suedkiez. I’m going to attempt to find a replacement unit and swap it out. I have low confidence in a lasting solution though. My Nucleus Plus Rev B has now crashed twice in the three years I’ve owned it. I either have real bad luck or the Intel boards are of low quality. In any case, I’m real disappointed that in three years my Nucleus + B went from a flagship product to unserviceable.
I pulled the MB out of my Nucleus+ revB and it is a NUC7i7DNB. I’m guessing several different Intel boards were used in the production of these units. Could have been an availability issue.
Disappointing history for Nucleus + rev B… mine lasted 18 months. A very very expensive mistake on my part, but never again would I consider buying Roon hardware… I wonder if the new owners have ever looked at the failure history on this unit? Would be great if they could make us whole.
And despite the inevitable fanboy response, a lot of people experienced this failure.
Since the fabless case is bulletproof, it would be cool to have it modular, in the sense that the back panel is 3-D printed and slides in so that if the board needs to be upgraded in the future, a new 3-D printed panel that fits the inputs can be swapped out.
I understand your sentiment, pscreed. Mine failed twice in under three years and is now not serviceable. Not what you want to see in a flagship (at the time) model. The response from Roon was a trade in offer: $3199 for a new Titan in trade for my broken Nucleus+ B. This is after I spent ~$2600 for the Nucleus +B that had a lifespan of less than three years. Not exactly a sales pitch I am willing to entertain.
