NucleusOne crashing all the time when adding media

Hi,

I’ve had a Nucleus One for a few days now and have equipped it with a 5TB internal hard drive. I’ve copied my music onto this drive (via USB, because I couldn’t get it to be stable enough to copy by SMB); according to Roon, it consists of 4,581 artists, 13,983 albums, and 100,444 tracks.

The Nucleus One crashes regularly when I copy new media to it. I can’t predict exactly when it will happen, but it happens several times a day. It never crashed before, when connecting to my music on my NAS via SMB.

Is my library size one of those “corner cases” where upgrading the RAM should help?

100k tracks is what the Nucleus One is rated for, but it’s really a rule of thumb as the actual contents of the library is also a significant factor.

There a couple of ways to go …

  1. Submit a technical support request and ask Roon to review the Roon Server logs.
  2. Bite the bullet and install additional RAM, and see how it performs.

If it where me, I’d probably go with #2.

FYI: no more crashes after upgrading ram to 32gb. Rock gnihihihi solid :sweat_smile:

do you know what is the RAM size on the Nucleus One?

After upgrading it is 32GB. 20.972 albums, 167.032 songs. No problems, NOW.

This device should not crash silently (for the end-user) when running out of memory - I was on the verge of sending the device back, and whenever anyone would have asked me about it, I would have vented my frustration. Thank goodness I had read about the memory issues in passing beforehand.

I even think it should not be made with this tiny amount of it per default (yeah, I know, memory is currently expensive, but is has not been).

I believe it comes with 4gb.

I just put the upgrqaded RAM in (similar edge case) and all is now wonderful in the garden :slight_smile:
