So I’ve been using Nugs on and off since I signed up for a 60-day trial two weeks ago. I was initially excited because I’ve heard of this service for years but I’m only trying it now. I won’t be renewing my service because there are very few artists that I listen to that are on it.
Anyway, I wanted to share some observations on the Roon Remote interface (I’m not commenting on the website or native Nugs app because I’ve never used it). Because the majority of Roon users are avid music enthusiasts and nerds, here are some ideas for enhancements:
- Currently in the Nugs interface in Roon remote, we can only search by Artists and Years. This is very limiting especially when it comes to live music. It would be great to see Location, or better yet, Venue as sort criteria.
- Personnel. There are no personnel listed in a particular show. This is one of the greatest strengths for Roon IMO, I’m always combing through personnel of albums and discovering new music this way. Granted that it may not be possible to find this out but this would be an amazing feature.
- Genre, there is absolutely no genre filtering in Nugs on Roon. This is a big miss. It means that I need to sift through all the artists I don’t listen to or care about and potentially accidentally skip over ones I do.
- Photos of the show? This is probably a big ask, but it would be great to have some photos from the live show and/or the venue to get an idea of what things were like. It would be a major enhancement–for me at least. A way to vicariously re-live the show.
- Sound engineer credit: as one myself I would love to see a credit of who mixed the live show. These guys don’t get enough credit…
- Band/artist bios. This is available on the main Remote sections but why not on the Nugs side? Along with the genre filtering, this might help me discover new music.
Anyway, these are just some thoughts.
