Opinion on Laptop cooling pad for NUC

Hi, I am running ROCK on a NUC 11i5 and wondering what the general opinion is on placing the NUC on a USB powered Laptop Cooling pad, powering it from the NUC itself. It seems like a cost-effective way to facilitate cooling.

From what I read when I researched them, they don’t seem to work very well for laptops either. Cooling stuff is harder than it sounds, unless the specific problem is that the NUC is in a cabinet with poor ventilation and the task is to get air exchanged in the cabinet

It is in a ventilated space, but running a bit hot, consistently. These cooling pads are cheap and the fan is silent, but not sure if it is a waste as you point out

The NUC, unlike a laptop, has it’s intake on the sides. I can’t see this doing anything useful.

If your NUC is running hot, there’s probably a reason, e.g., dust, so you should look at cleaning the fan assembly first.

I use a little 5" USB fan. I power the NUC (and attached fan) using a TP-Link plug, turned on by Alexa.

I decided to get it anyway and it seems to make a small difference. The fan does not spin up like crazy when Roon is initiated, which may just be coincidence. It is running a bit cooler, judging by touch.
