Describe the issue

I am having problems with roon and Hqplayer desktop version 4 after latest roon update. When I press play I get error message “Playback couldn’t start: authorization error”

Describe your network setup

Fritz router and cat6 ethernet cabling between roon server and endpoint

Are you sure that you have the accept network control button clicked in HQPlayer? @jussi_laako might know better what that error message indicates.

Yes, network control button is enabled.
After further checking here’s what I found out: the issue seems to happen when HQplayer desktop is started automatically at OS startup (running on Gentooplayer XFCE version 8.60).
After I get the error within Roon, if I close HQP and restart it, then it works fine…
Problem is that I intend to use my Roon server headless, with no monitor, keyboard and mouse.
With all previous versions of Roon I never had this issue.

Hello @Stefano_Fumagalli ,

Welcome to the forum! It sounds like this issue is HQPlayer specific, so I have moved this thread over to the HQ Player section. I can’t say if this will help with your exact issue, but we have the following guide on how to configure Roon for a headless environment:

Thanks @noris for your help. The instructions you linked are not applicable as I am running on gentooplayer (linux) and not on windows.

Authorization error likely means HQPlayer doesn’t have proper internet access…

HQPlayer is likely displaying an error “Check your internet connection!”
