I’m going to a festival with a lot of bands and musicians that I don’t know (yet). I would like to prepare myself by listening to (preferably newer) music by these artists. Can I make some kind of playlist that does this for me (I use Qobuz)?
Yes
You have two options;
- create the playlist in the Qobuz app, which should sync to show in Roon
Or
- create the playlist in Roon
As Mr.Flibble points out just just search for the artist(s) in Roon, pick a couple of tracks under their ‘Popular’ tracks (you can right-click to select more than one) and add them to a new playlist — you can create your new playlist when adding the first track(s). Nothing special going on there.
Alternatively, it might be worth Googling for “Spotify Playlist for The Festival You Are Going To” (most major music festivals create playlist like this on Spotify) and then syncing that Spotify playlist with your Qobuz account using a service like Soundiz — just copy the play.spotify.com/playlist link for your festival/playlist into Soundiz under Import Playlist → URL. The Qobuz playlist will then appear in Roon next time it syncs.
(would be even better if we could do this directly in Roon, but… )
Creating your own playlist in Roon by hand is probably easiest if your only interested in a few bands, although synching the festivals own Spotify playlist into your Qobuz account might be better in terms of track selection.
Thanks, what I meant was, can I make a playlist of selected artists (preferably not in my library yet) that plys (preferably newer music) of these artists? Or do I have to select the albums and/or tracks, (that I do not know yet)? Or is there a way to do this that does not involve playlist? Its like a Roon Radio limited to those specific artists.
If you go to the artist page the "Popular’ tab will pick out a selection of their music, regardless of whether the tracks are in your library or not ie. it will include tracks from Qobuz that you don’t yet know / haven’t been added to your library yet.
The selections Roon displays under this tab tend to skew newer if the artist has a new album out, which sounds like what you are after. Select the first few tracks and add them to a new ‘My Festival’ playlist.
Repeat that for each artist on your festival lineup and your done.
You can also use Roon’s new Listen Later feature, but creating a dedicated playlist, which you can add and remove tracks from, is probably more flexible.
But there’s no Roon Radio ‘like’ feature that can be seeded with a list of artists as far as I am aware.
TBH I’d just add 2-3 tracks under the Popular tab for each artist to a new ‘Festival playlist’, you’ll be done in under hour and can start listening to the tracks
Probably a more productive use of time than pondering the various ways of doing this!!!
@j_a_m_i_e Thanks a lot, this is exactly what I needed!
