Hi,
The number of subgenres for Jazz is quite long but the Gypsy Jazz subgenre is conspicuously missing for those of us who love it. Django Reinhardt et al. need some recognition!
Thank you!
Not the same as Gypsy Jazz. Jazz Radio.com has a channel for Gypsy Jazz.
Well yeah, but the tag is carried by Gypsy Jazz musicians like Django Reinhardt, so you can create a focus for Gypsy + Jazz and then it would include artists or albums that are tagged with both. Though admittedly this works only for in-library albums.
And Roon doesn’t create the genres themselves because they have to work with the metadata from the upstream providers. As far as I know, the Roon Genre hierarchy is largely based on the hierarchy from TiVo/Allmusic.
It’s definitely not the same thing, whether Roon treats it like that or not. I have several of his albums so all for this. It seems Allmusic adds Gypsy as a style not a genre so this is what Roon picks up. Genre is Jazz, International
I agreed that it’s not the same, just saying that you can use Gypsy + Jazz for e.g. Django Reinhardt in Focus. Which doesn’t help with non-library, though.
However, if Roon adds this genre the result is probably zero if nothing in TiVo / MusicBrainz uses it. And I suppose that if it was used by TV/MB, then Roon would already have it
