I have the KEF ls ll speakers but they are very frustrating. You connect with roon or the kef app and it plays for about 5 minutes properly, then one speaker dies, comes back and then both cut out, then they both might come back for a few minutes and then this depressing cycle continues randomly. So the speakers are basically unusable.
My speakers are tethered via the ethernet cable. I’ve tried an auxiliary line out to a DAP which makes no difference. I am wondering whether i can hardwire them directly from router but the instructions to do this in the manual are vague.
When the speakers play, they’re great. But they don’t! I wonder if any other users here have this kind of issue and whether there might be solutions.
I have these speakers KEF LSX II and I have them tethered to each other as well as an RJ45 cable to a network bridge, this has meant no drop outs to date. In a belt and braces approach I also have an RPi running Roopie attached via the USB C input which allows for the Lossless light to shine brightly (overkill I know, but it pleases me!). In addition I have the KC62 pumping out the bass frequencies giving me my perfect bedroom system.
I have ROCK connected (Intel NUC 11) via USB to SMSL SU-1 DAC, whose RCA output goes to the Sonos Port and from there to the whole Sonos ecosystem. I do not use the Sonos protocol, as using an external DAC sounds better and keeps the connection 100% stable, while the Sonos protocol drops the connection after a few hours.
I have had the LS50W2’S for 2 1/2 years I think, you have to hard wire them between the speakers and again to the router, it’s just an ethernet cable into the main speaker.
Setup like this they are very reliable, EXCEPT I have 2 x Kef subwoofers and there were issues of them going into standby on lower volumes that took months for Kef to address properly without a workaround which I don’t expect to do with kit which is all designed to work together.
Then they had a software update which disabled the primary subwoofer channel on the main speaker.
All stuff which should never have happened, I’ll avoid the brand in future and never buy active speakers beyond a smart speaker again.
Their support to me personally was rubbish, promised call backs that never materialised.
If I buy an amp and speakers again they will be passive.
Yes, i agree with active speakers. They can sound great as the Kefs do but the tech inside that makes them active is totally buggy and unreliable.
I’ve wired my main speaker via ethernet to my router but the speakers are just defaulting to Wifi. How did you wire yours and did you need to re-set the speakers? Thanks and best, james
I just plugged them into into the router with an ethernet cable, I have never reset them, I think there is a procedure in the manual.
I just looked at the app and did a network test, it identifies my network as LAN, what is yours?
My favorite are Audioengine A5+ powered speakers. I have 3 sets connected via Chromecast Audio pucks in addition to a 4th Chromecast audio connected to my main stereo with B&W speakers. The house is alive with music ( when my neighbors are not home ).
I have a similar arrangement in the guest bedroom.
Roon via Ethernet → Squeezebox Touch via digital optical output → Audioengine HD6 wireless speakers.
There is no way that this setup is “wireless” - power cords for the speakers and the Touch, Ethernet cable to the Touch, optical cable from the Touch to the main speaker and speaker cable from the main (right) speaker to the secondary (left) speaker. The speakers do have built in amps and a Bluetooth receiver so I guess that makes them “wireless” to the advertising department.
My battery powered UE Boom Bluetooth speaker is the only wireless speaker I own which is actually wireless.
thanks, that’s helpful. I am traveling right now but will check this out when I return. The problem with these speakers is that they are expensive but they don’t work so you can’t in all honesty sell them on. Never again…
Have many Sonos collected over the years, some wired, some wireless. More and more problems, mainly drop outs, ironically from wired Sonos Amps. Eero mesh network, sometimes I’ve used Sonosnet, other times not. In a newer setup, went with BluOS.
