The Roon Labs Partners page claims that the JBL Charge 5 Wifi is Roon Ready. Is this the case for yours? The JBL web pages make no mention of Roon at all.
Yes, I believe it was with the May or June firmware update that it became roon ready
My main listening area is our home theater room, and secondarily in the living room. Since weāre just talking speakers, Iāll leave out the components except to say that everything is hard-wired over ethernet. The reason is I especially enjoy multichannel ultra high fidelity audio. This is not supported over wireless protocols AFIK.
Theater room speakers:
- Mains : Acoustic Research AR9 Hi-Res
- Center: Polk Audio Reserve R300
- Surround (4): Polk S10
- Surround (2): ATMOS Polk Audio Monitor XT90
- Subwoofer: Polk PSW505
Living Room
- Kanto YU6 Powered Bookshelf speakers
I have a pair of these for the garden and they have been working perfectly since the āRoon Readyā firmware update at the end of April.
The Phantoms seem really popular! I had been considering buying a pair Dynaudio Focus 10s, but the popularity of the phantoms has me second guessing!
I generally use my Bang & Olufsen A9 (MK2) and Beosound 2 via CC when Iām using Roon for secondary room listening. Both hard wired for network, and no issues. Tremendous sounding (within the single point speaker space). Both B&O speakers are Airplay 2 as well, but I prefer CC for music.
Best to separate the longer life speakers from the shorter life electronics. I have KEF LS50 metas with a WiiM Ultra and a big olā AB amp and a KC62 sub.
What if i hate wireless speakers ? Because i do
I chosen Phantoms for its sound quality as for it size/design its really a beautiful egg
I believe that Roon learned this trick from Logitech Media Server, nonetheless it never fails that if one has friends over and one wants to show them how great it is to stream music instead of having to deal with LPs and CDs then Roon (and LMS) will refuse to work! And of course one HAS TO go back to playing CDs!
Mine is more dinner party or daughters friends party. My fallback from Roon Tidal is Sonos Spotify! In fact for any event where I make a Tidal playlist, I make a backup on Spotify!
I use Yamaha MusicCast 20 WX-021. Reasons:
- Is above my dining table, and with an open kitchen the noise is such that more expensive speakers are useless.
- Musiccast supports Airplay, and Roon supports Airplay (2). I can therefore use Roon remote from my Windows laptop to connect to the speakers via Musiccast/Airplay.
- Recommended is to wire these speakers to an access point for stability.
High Enough FI for me in this situation. (BTW the sitting room has a more HiRes setup
When I first set up my KEF LS 50 II Wireless speakers, I experienced what you described while playing 24/192 FLAC. As soon as I connected them to my network via ethernet, ALL my issues disappeared, and I havenāt had a single problem with them since.
I, like @Grasshopper, recommend trying that first. You may also want to make sure the speakers are running the latest firmware. You can check for updates in the KEF app.
Hey @Geoff_Coupe, the Charge 5 WiFi is Roon Ready! Itās a great little speaker for adding a portable Roon Zone.
Then this particular thread wonāt have much to offer, Iām afraid.
Thanks. I did try that once but i couldnāt seem to disable the wifi connection which overrode it. Iāll give it another go.
I have a couple of Sonos Roam, paired. Used in the ābolt holeā in the corner of the garden. They work perfectly in this fairly small space. Love to sit out here when itās raining (we get a lot of that in the UK)! We also have Play Oneās in the bedrooms and kitchen, but obviously they have power cables connected.
What a perfectly lovely space to enjoy music!
Thank you @jamie A nice compliment.
Roon currently streaming the below out here. Goes down lovely with a glass of Friday wine. Cheers!
Thanks @jamie - I went ahead and bought the JBL Charge 5 Wifi. It arrived yesterday. Setting it up using the JBL One app on my Android phone was straightforward, and it installed the firmware update to make the speaker Roon Ready automatically and there it was:
Thereās still no mention of Roon by JBL in any of the documentation, or in the JBL One app - youāre missing a marketing trick there
your Roam is wireless, but your gnome is not.
