Description of Issue -
What is the exact port forwarding error message you see in the Roon Settings → ARC tab?
In the Roon server settings “Roon ARC” there are no errors reported. “Your Roon Server was automatically configured and has been confirmed to be securely accessible by Roon ARC”
Port 55000. The gateway has a port forwarding rule for UPnP IGD original 55000, Protocol TCP. fwd to Port 55000, schedule always
However, on Roon ARC android app (pixel 7, android 14), cloud status is green, Roon server reports “port forwarding issue”
Thank you for your post and welcome to Roon Community.
The port forwarding test in Roon Settings pings upstream servers and listens for a response via the open port - it doesn’t directly test the downstream connection to the phone.
Another possibility is that there’s competition for the port and it’s only intermittently available.
Three steps I would try, in order of their heavy-handedness.
First, try changing the port number in both Roon Settings → ARC and the associated manual port forwarding rule you have created. Augmenting by 100-1000 is usually helpful - Port 55100 would be a useful start.
Second, try reinstalling ARC on the Pixel phone. This will unfortunately require you to re-download any local tracks to the phone.
If neither of the above are helpful, try installing Tailscale instead. This will create a proxy mesh network between RoonServer and ARC instead of relying on port forwarding for NAT traversal. It will allow the Pixel phone to connect to RoonServer via a different pathway entirely.
Thanks Connor. Tried the first 2 options. They both seemed to work for a little while, until they didn’t.
Currently installing Roon server on my Synology NAS to see if that works better. It is taking forever to index my music folder, so probably, the NAS isn’t gonna have enough CPU/memory to run it well.
Can you provide a bit more information on the above statement? Did you happen to catch the error code when it no longer synced properly?
Did you give the Tailscale KB article a read above? It could very well help you with Arc issues, but I also understand if it’s too technical to approach. Let us know!
