Is portrait mode working on Android tablet?

Portrait mode has not been released for any tablet, Android or otherwise, except for the one specific Applet tablet (12.7" iPad Pro, I think). Although, I remember my older Nexus 7 tablet ran only in Phone UI portrait mode.
