I have a Nucleus+ Core Server (revB) and am in the UK. The power lead is not long enough and the “wrong way round” to work with my existing extension lead.
Would this 65W, 19V 3.42A Power Adapter work with it please?
It’s not clear where the issue is. Is it the mains lead or the power “brick” and DC cable? And, what do you mean by “the wrong way round”?
You’d be better off keeping the supplied power adapter, and adding an extension cable.
I am already using an extension cable. “daisy-chaining”—is dangerous and generally advised against by safety experts.
So I wanted to know if the item I listed would be able to be used as a replacement?
We are talking about 19 V here.
The danger in daisy chaining is by connecting power strips to each other, with each strip having several outlets connected to devices, which multiplies the load at the root. Not with extending a single cable with a suitable extension. (which in this case here is 19V as @mjw points out)
As pointed out, extending the 19V side of the adaptor isn’t anything to be concerned about.
But I assume your other bug bear is the fact that the supplier power adaptor is a wall-wart type and that the orientation of the UK plug insert, means the bulk of the adaptor faces in the opposite direction to the rest of your plugs / cables when using a multi-socket power strip?
While that orientation might make sense for a wall socket, low down on the wall, I can see why it would be annoying when using it with a UK power strip.
I think Roon along with seasoned forum members are generally loath to recommend alternative/replacement PSUs, for good reason, as it leads to users changing PSUs simply for the sake of upgrading, see also unscrupulous vendors selling after market audiophool PSUs, which opens a can of worms better left shut and increases the likelihood of users damaging thier devices.
As the saying goes “If it’s ain’t broken… “ although in your case I can understand why the wall wart’s orientation could be frustrating.
You’ve probably worked this out yourself by now, but the supplied Roon power adaptor is 19V/60W with a 2.5mm barrel plug, as long as your replacing it like-for-like power/voltage wise, then I can”t see an issue with using the Amazon one you linked to.
