Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital

I made my own using Belden 1804A starquad cable (silver plated copper).

Of course using the same wiring config as shown in that wiring diagram on the Monoprice page. But using a slightly different shielding method (as recommended by John Swenson).

Not necessary but I like to tinker.

Those Monoprice ones are great. As are these Benchmark (Canare StarQuad L-4E6S) ones:

Sorry I can’t comment since I haven’t used the micro-USB input, only the coax input. Nonetheless that should not have happened. i hope that you can it fixed at no cost.

Great way to go although using the Pre Box S2 Digital with lower impedance headphones works great as well.

It works well but I think the ultra low headphone output impedance of the THX 789 helps a lot with very low impedance headphones… And the fast, high current output may help with lower impedance headphones too (with transients/peaks)…

To my ears anyway, it makes for a better experience, with both my ~13 ohm Mr Speakers Aeon Closed and my higher impedance HD800-S cans.

this is only used for a power supply…the other usb input is for any external dac…

My bad :hushed:

Well in that the micro-USB is working perfectly.

Hello, does LKS power supply running hot, because it’s max is 3.5A. Usbridge uses 2.5 - 3A and S2 uses 1A? Thanks

I don’t see any references on the thread to this product:

https://www.project-audio.com/en/product/power-box-s2/

Perhaps that’s because I was told this by Sumiko in response to my email inquiry in March:

ā€œAccu Box is shipping via special order. No dealer have stock, but any can order now.ā€

Does anyone know more?

Hello

I just got my Pre Box S2. I am using the USB input so it is powering the unit. When I turn off or put the PC on sleep, the USB port still powers the Pre Box as I need to keep powering other devices connected to other USB ports.

My question is, is it safe for the Pre Box S2 to keep turned on 24/7?

Thanks in advance for you reply

Regards

I have had my Pre Box S2 Digital powered on 24/7 for several months now with no ill effects.

It is powered via USB from my Stream Box S2 Ultra which is also left powered on 24/7. Both units are working great :+1:.

Hello

According to the google doc suggested on this thread, it says when the PBS2 is in MQB with the purple dot, then the DAC is not performing the second unfold (rendering). I am confused because in the PBS2 screen it is showing the full MQA sampling (for instance 192k). So the question is: is the PBS2 rendering (2nd unfolding) when in MQB?

If this were the case, would it be better to do an upsampling with Roon?

By the way I get the MQB as I am using volume leveling which is important to me.

Regards

Hi. When you see MQB on the DAC display it is in rendering-only mode. You only get MQB on the DAC display if the 1st unfold is done upstream (Roon/Tidal App/Audirvana, for example)

Yep

Thanks for the fast answer.

I do not listen any difference between MQA and MQB. So I will experiment more with other DSP options in Roon. I will also try what Magnus suggess to upsample all to DSD

Enjoying Roon and the PBS2

Never heard chord products. But I have the p-ultra. It sounds More detailed nothing ive heard befors When i listen to dsd files. With Roon it works perfekt. Comparing to meridian 3000 dollar dac or IFi top dac 2000 i cant say which dac is playing on a blindtest. Just buy it

Gerald- Thanks for the recommendation of the Jameco PS Wall Adapter. When looking at the photo of the Jameco adapter it appears that the end is a standard round plug into the equipment. When I look at the Pro-Ject Pre Box power input it appears to be more of a rounded rectangle shape. When ordering the Jameco adapter what plug type should I request? Thanks for your help. Greg

You’ll need this adapter:

I’m assuming you’re using this Jameco adapter:

Gerald - thanks so much for the additional information. Saved me time in trying to find and figure out the connection I needed.

THANKS AGAIN
