Hi guys

You always want processing speed to be above 1x with some extra headroom. 1x means it’s doing the processing of the music at the same speed as the music is playing. If you drop below 1x, you will get dropouts as it’s not keeping up. 12x means you have lots of headroom as it’s processing 12 times faster than the music is playing. What exactly the processing speed is is dependent on what box you have running Roon core, how many zones you are playing at the same time, and whether you are using DSP. A more powerful box will will give you higher processing speeds for the same task as a less powerful box running Roon core. I get about 22x processing speed on my Nucleus+ doing the same thing you are for 1 zone as a comparison. Hope all that is clear.
Above 1.3x
Never noticed the processing speed before, maybe because I don’t see it on my Signal Path window. Obviously, I’m not looking in the right place or accessing it from the correct screen of Roon; does it refer to DSD processing? (from looking at the OP’s included graphics). What’s the secret?
If its not there it is >100 and so you are in great shape!
Good to know; thanks !!!
I’ve never noticed it too. I just changed my filter to “7th order” and noticed this…
This might be but is unrelated as the 7th order modulator belongs to DSD processing which, according to your screenshot of the signal path, is not in use.
In your Processing speed screen pic, you are upsampling 44.1 PCM to 384 PCM. 7th order Clans is used in DSD processing, so should have nothing to do with your displayed Signal Path as it is all PCM.
As for the 12x, is a function of processor speed. Mine is about 22x doing the same conversions.
Thank you. How do I use the 7th order filter to PCM then? Earlier in the day, I was chatting with Andrew from Sonore and we were discussing if Roon’s upsampling is better than Chord Mscaler. He asked me to use the 7th order filter and thats the only place where I could choose.
Maybe you were confused and were actually discussing HQPlayer’s filters vs the Chord MScaler.
You can’t.
Got it. Thanks.
I run my core on a 2014 MacBook Pro and processing speed sits around 25.
My processing speed reads 75.
Is that measuring the NUC or my DAC?
Core, which is your NUC.
