I’ve moved my install folder from the user folder (on Windows) to a folder under the root. Why is it that when Roon updates, it insists on installing back under the user folder? It apparently found the previous install under the root folder as it was removed.
How did you do this? Moved or uninstalled and reinstalled?
Simple as moving the “application” folder and updating shortcuts. Data is still under the user folder.
As far as I can tell, there is no way to tell the installer where to install. If there is, I’m all ears.
I don’t know how Roon’s installer works, but in general, moving install folders in Windows does not work. It’s not a Mac, where the app folders are self-contained. Most Windows installers for anything but super simple apps put entries into the Windows registry database, and these entries can contain folder paths, which are not updated when moving the folder. So when such a app checks in the registry, it would still get the old paths
Don’t do this. It can only lead to heartache and pain.
It works fine, and it works for multiple logins on the same host. What’s more, I have bridge running as a service, so I’m using the UI app only for the UI. That works great, too, and allows music to play regardless of who’s logged in.
Thanks for the advice, though.
Just to be clear, “moving the install directory” is considered Tinkering and outside the realm of Roon support.
So, I am moving this thread to the Tinkering section.
Reminds me of the time I put all the Windows dll files into a separate Libs directory and added it to the path because that’s how I thought Windows should work. Microsoft had a different view and I ended up bricking the computer.
