I have a PS Audio Stellar Dac paired with an Eversolo T8 Streamer. They are connected via I2S. I don’t understand the roon DSP sampling conversion settings. Question - If I set the PCM setting to Max or if I set it to convert to DSD, my Dac will display the Max PCM (384) or DSD (256) on it’s display but what is it actually playing. Most music from Tidal is recorded at PCM 44.1 or 48 or 96 so if it’s upsampling to 384 PCM or 256 DSD am I actually getting higher resolution or just a cleaner signal?
The short answer is…. Use whatever sounds better to you. I can type up a much longer answer later in the week if someone else has not already.
You’re sending higher resolution to the DAC. This can, based on some stuff I don’t have time to type right now, can result in a cleaner signal (on the analog side), but not always. For now, use what sounds better.
