I have just been done over by a software company. Many years ago I purchased a perpetual (ie ‘lifetime’) licence for a piece of backup software. The company was bought by another supplier of backup software and they converted my perpetual license into a 1 year subscription to their own software. So after a year it stops working unless I subscribe annually. Admittedly my original software will continue to run but I needed to move it to another computer and now cannot do so as I can’t easily relicense it on a new more modern PC. We aren’t talking about much money here and I have had my moneys worth so to speak but it is the principle of the thing that bugs me. Needless to say I haven’t taken them up on their kind offer of a free year and am using another piece of software which is free to use but additional features can be obtained for a very modest fee, so will pay them the money and update the free software because it works very well indeed.
I subscribe monthly to Tidal and as they always seem to be losing money and on the edge of bankruptcy I wouldn’t entertain a years payment in advance. No idea what the state of Qobuz finances is.
I got same one here in Japan.
I received the e-mail. I live in Spain.
The price for the 3-year period seems the 1-year price x 3, so the only obtained advantage is in case of a price rise within the next 2 years (I will renew in 2 months aprox.)
I am not interested in the 3-years proposal.
@acatala
The price rise is announced for the 1ste of October 2025. That is the reason why you can now go for a three years investment, but for the actual price. This means that you can skip the price rise for the comming 3 years.
It doesn’t apply to Sublime+ subscribers. I worry this perk tier might no longer be offered in the future.
With all these price hikes recently… You could always do a family share and spread the cost. If you have family members into music? If not, I’m sure any close friends wouldn’t mind… ![]()
Thanks @Frank_M . I didn’t know about the october 1st rise. Too bad, my renewal is dated on november 3rd.
Where is it announced?
I’m currently on Sublime annual as well. Till end of January next year.
I have not received that message from Qobuz… for now.
Thanks @SandsOfArrakis !
Qobuz Studio in Germany, got the offer and took it.
To the naysayers, who of you is on Roon lifetime?
Just saying …
Ah, I guess I didn’t get it because Sublime
I received the email this evening.
I guess it might be because we are paying a higher cost already. I hope it is that and not that the Sublime tier may not live three years.
Took up the offer yesterday to lock in the 3year offer. They pro-rated the existing credit of my 1 year into the payment. I reckon, they’re just moving revenue forward locking it in at existing prices. Other subscription based companies occasionally do such. I would have reservations if the company was still fresh & led by 20 year olds. Qobuz, soundcloud - I’m comfortable with, as comfortable as I was switching to Roon lifetime. We’ll probably see Qobuz building up more things - improving things in 2026 and 2027.
I haven’t received the offer (yet) in France.
I value being able to stream and purchase in the same place. I am a sublime customer and plan on sticking with it, I hope its not due a price increase.
If they are potentially broke , I don’t expect they will expand to Africa any time soon ![]()
If they are revisiting their subscription model, they are probably revisiting/renegotiating their partnerships as well. Maybe with roon. I would have thought a more direct relationship with their customers is at least as valuable, maybe more than the subscriptions. Increased investment in their own player has to be for a reason.
It’s worth noting that Qobuz connect now works with McIntosh MX123 A/V, - received a marketing notice from McIntosh. An audio streaming company strengthening their collaboration with hardware manufacturers, is a good sign.
