This is helpful. Thanks!
I wonder if that is due to not knowing what 3rd parties will charge for digital copies in the future and how that would impact their discount pricing? ![]()
I didn’t get the offer, just got the normal extension e-mail yesterday.
I was thinking perhaps the people of Qobuz have intel on Spotify releasing high res with competitive pricing, so they try to lock in their customers for three years. A non issue for us Roon users as Spotify isn’t integrated (supposing that isn’t on the horizon for their high res offer).
I did get offer yesterday. Not sure why. I’ve used their download store, so that may have put the target on my back.
If I had the means I’d grab it, even given a risk on the deal going south if they somehow went under. I am very anti-Spotify at the moment, and also pro-Roon/Tidal/Qobuz, and it scares me if Spotify still win given their treatment of independent artists.
I got the offer and signed up for it. I also wondered if it was a bad sign, but in the end decided Qobuz was worth paying for (breadth of coverage and hi res streaming) and if it helps them navigate a rough patch, so be it.
Well it was just announced that Spotify is rolling our 24/44 lossless at no extra charge to Premium customers .
Maybe Qobuz knew this and wanted to get ahead of it even though there will not be any 24/96 or 24/192 streaming .
Qobuz worked pretty damn hard to implement their Connect feature so I’m sticking with them . I’m part of my sons Spotify premium plan as well but I won’t be dropping Qobuz.
Spotify’s lack of 96/192 is reason 6 on a long list for me. Would never use their platform.
I am in Germany and I did get the offer and took it with fingers crossed. Anyway I want to support them!!
If this can get people off the free tier, then well played. I have been (lecturing) my daughter about the benefits of hifi for ages, so now she could experiment for herself? Don’t think their Ogg Vorbis 320 kbps is fabulous, and I’m normally fine with lossy for certain environments.
If a hifi subbed tier is moving away from the Spotify sleaze given sub money, then I might one day hold my nose and opt back in… if there was no other choice for streaming. I’d probably choose Apple Music first.
This doesn’t look like they’re going out of business, it looks like they are trying to lock up subscribers and give themselves a facelift in order to be acquired.
I agree. I think they saw the Spotify rollout coming like I’m sure most did in the industry.
I would love for Harmen to purchase Qobuz. A Qobuz/Roon bundle could be worked out then.
I’ll second that. As an Apple Music household, for me and I’m sure many others, the subscription to Qobuz is purely to use with Roon. Therefore the true cost of Roon in my case is two subscriptions. A packaged offer would certainly encourage me not to look at other options - such as hardware that can stream Apple Music with a library management option (Eversolo, Fiio etc)
I have received this offer in beginning of September and agreed to it, unfortunately the 3 years are not extending the existing 1yr subscription, the 3 years start on the day I agree to it. The rest of the year, which I have already paid via the anual subscriiption seems lost.
You should reach out to Qobuz support, I’m sure they will adjust your subscription
Reading the fine print at the end of the announcement mail would have helped you to understand, that, on the contrary, any remaining prior subscription payment will be credited against the 3 year subscription fee, so no sweat, just check your bank balance, lean back and enjoy the tunes for another three years.
Went with roon lifetime for that reason. One subscription less.
Qobuz’s date format is date-month-year, commonly used in Europe, whereas in the US people use month-date-year format. My US subscription date is dd-mm-yy, and this has confused me for quite some time because I didn’t think about the format difference.
That is odd - I received a credit for the 7 months remaining on my subscription.
