Hello, I am experimenting by using my Moon 390 as USB-dac. That works fine (music, incl. MQA, streams ok) but I have two (minor) problems.
I can only change the volume using the Moon remote or the volume-knob on the 390 and not via Roon. I found one possibility but that only lowers volume from the set volume on the 390
The display shows the volume I set using the remote (or knob) but no cover-art, album or song title and after some time the clock appears.
Question, am I doing something wrong or am I asking too much from Ropieee (fine peice of software and support by the way!).
Yours,
Hijko
Harry, thanks for your fast response!
Yep, you are right but I am considering another amp with built-in DAC and want to know if I can use Ropieee as a streamer untill I might buy another streamer. Streaming works fine but, as I mentioned, no volume-control in Roon app and no cover-art and I like both.
It’s no big deal but would like to know if I did something wrong or if I’m expecting something thats not available…
RoPieee has display support, by means of adding a touchscreen to the Raspberry Pi. You can then view and control any Roon zone.
Volume control is not possible from within Roon, unless you use software volume control. Device volume control, like with the 390, requires a Roon-Ready implementation.
RoPieee supports both OSMC and Flirc remote controls - in that case you can control the (software) volume control in Roon.
Hello Harry,
Thanks for your swift reply. I am using the touch-screen on the Pi otherwise I wouldnt know that it does not display album-art and revert to clock.
I now use Pi4, touch-screen and Ropieee solely for display-ing album-art and album- and track info (and it does that brilliantly) while I use Roon for streaming music to my Moon 390 and controlling the volume.
What I ideally would like is the same functionality (display of cover-art and album/track info on Pi4, volume control via Roon) using Roon with Ropieee on Pi4 as streamer and the 390 as DAC but I understand that is not possible.
Just display of cover-art and album/track info would already make me happy
Anyway, thanks for fast response and keep up the good work - I’ll just try to find another solution.
Hello Harry.
Ok, I’ll try again bacause I’m not clear enough (mijn schuld). Next time I’ll use Dutch
Current (normal) setup - Moon 390 (Roon endpoint), Roon, Pi4 with display and Ropieee only for display of cover-art and track info. Use Roon app for selecting music and changing volume. Works great - I see cover-art and album/track info on Pi display and I can change volume with Roon while current volume is displayed on Pi display.
Test setup (because I might buy another amp with inbuilt DAC) - Moon 390 as DAC, Roon, Pi4 with display and connected to 390 via USB and selecting USB as input on 390. Using the Roon app I can select that combination for output and I can choose music as with the current (normal) setup but… volume can only be changed using the remote from Moon and only the volume-indication on Pi display is changed - coverart and track info are not updated and after some time the clock appears on the Pi display.
In fact in the test setup I ‘misuse’ the 390 as just a DAC/preamp and not a network device (for which in this test setup I use the Pi with Ropieee).
I hope I made it a little bit clearer - if not I might be able to clarify in Dutch and/or add some photo’s (but not today). On the other hand, its just something I’m testing so if it does’nt work, its what it is and no great deal for me but I was hopeing it was my mistake.
You can always reach me in a private message in Dutch
This is possibly a setup issue, because this should certainly be possible.
Have you configured both the RoPieee extension in Roon and the correct zone in RoPieee?
Can you otherwise send me feedback? You can find that option on the ‘advanced’ tab.
After some private message exchanges with Harry I got it working. Was my own fault because I forgot to change the zone . I was misled by the fact that the volume was displayed but nevertheless, it was my mistake.
So, all is fine and my undertsanding of appreciation of Ropieee keeps on growing.
