If I have been paying monthly for several months and then want to switch to a lifetime membership, do I need to pay the full lifetime membership fee again, or will the fees I have already paid for the monthly membership be deducted and I just need to pay the remaining balance?
hi,
you need to pay the complete fee for the lifetime membership.
No, of course not. When you’re on a monthly or annual subscription, that’s precisely what you committed to buying. You’re not repaying a mortgage.
A lifetime subscription has a fee, and begins when you pay up. If it wasn’t like this, Roon would have zero revenue from most customers after several years, and wouldn’t be viable.
Thank you for your reply. Can a lifetime member change their email during the usage process?
Yes, you can reset your email in your accounts settings: Your Account.
FWIW they credited me x months remaining on my annual plan to go life time.
I believe, some time back, the deal was that if you bought lifetime within the first month of an annual subscription, you got the years subscription (or most of it - I can’t remember) credited against the lifetime subscription.
However, that no longer appears to be the case.
A pity because after a three month trial period (30 days free and two months monthly sub), I decided I wanted to buy into lifetime but I deliberately bought a year sub and the 30 days later I bought the discounted lifetime - effectively spreading the cost somewhat over two months.
I don’t think that you can do that these days.
I wrote them a sad beg email and they agreed to credit months. ![]()
It’s usually best to keep any “special considerations you received” to yourself.
Are you saying there is a buy 2 get 1 free deal? ![]()
Many years ago they use to credit the unused portion of your annual subscription towards the purchase of a lifetime license.
Looking back, I’m glad I took advantage of this when I bought a lifetime license in 2017. I was part way through my second annual subscription when I decided to go lifetime and was credited the remaining time on my annual subscription. The cost of the lifetime license was also much less then as well.
I think for a while, they didn’t even have the lifetime option.
What period would that be? I started my lifetime pretty much exactly ten years ago (they had a Thanksgiving discount that year, I believe the only time there’s been a discount for lifetime. Not the reason I started the lifetime at the time, rather they had just confirmed they were well along the way in supporting Squeezebox endpoints, which I used at the time).
Best I can remember, Roon has always offered a lifetime license since they started in 2015 (I signed up in 2016). I believe in the beginning they offered a discount on the lifetime license to bring in needed cash. At some point before I bought my lifetime license in 2017, the discount went away and has never returned. If I remember correctly, the regular price on the lifetime license has increased twice.
I did so as well. To the best of my knowledge, 2015 was the only time they offered a black friday discount on lifetime. I had just jumped into Roon (from the Squeezeboxen invironment) and loved that they decided to support Squeezeboxes as endpoints. Gotta think that buying into Roon lifetime back then was one of the smartest moves I ever made.
When Roon raised the lifetime price some years back there was much talk of them discontinuing lifetime membership completely. To be honest, I’m kinda surprised they haven’t done so.
It has been commented on several times that lifetime is very likely to be discontinued completely for new subscribers but will continue as is for existing lifetime users
Some years ago Roon increased the Lifetime to make it less attractive
It makes business sense, the yearly/monthly subs keep the money rolling in , the original lifetime brought in startup money
I had a 60-day free trial last year offer through the purchase of a HiFi Rose streamer. About halfway through my trial, I decided to purchase the lifetime subscription. Best decision I ever made since I had the feeling it will eventually be discontinued for new subscribers.
Roon has been saying this for a decade. At this point it’s like the boy who called wolf.
Still, if someone wants a lifetime license, don’t put it off.
I think you’re correct on the price increasing twice.
I have 6 days left on my 14 day trial and I want to buy a lifetime subscription but I have to wait till Black Friday just to make sure I don’t miss out on a possible discount.
I would be shocked if Roon offered any discount. They have repeatedly stated they do not want to encourage lifetime licenses, hence the price increases and lack of discounts.
