Remove AI generated results from search using Firefox

Continuing the discussion from Giving up Roon:

Okay, this is how to add -ai to all Google search results using Firefox.

  1. Type about:config in the address bar, hit Enter, and accept the risk warning
  2. Enter browser.urlbar.update2.engineAliasRefresh in the preference field, select Boolean, and click Add
  3. Now, go to Settings → Search, and click on Search Shortcuts (which you’ve just enabled)
  4. Finally, click on Add, and type https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=%s+-ai in the Engine URL box

Many thanks for this. As described, it didn’t quite work for me because the ‘Google’ search engine entry was not editable. However, it lead me to create an alternative ‘Google.co.uk’ entry with the specified Engine URL which I could them make the default instead of the ‘Google’ engine.

This works brilliantly for me :grinning:

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve updated step 4. to include Add, since the standard searches aren’t editable.
