Replacement Battery For Chord Mojo 2 [ISSUE RESOLVED]

Has anyone found a US source for a replacement battery for Chord Mojo 2? Chord was not much help. Mine is totally dead. I’ll remove it when I get back home and see if it will work OK with external power and no battery. The dead battery is causing noise issues so I am using my FiiO KA1 for now.

Nope. Lots for Mojo but not Mojo 2.

Is it different?

Yes. I’ll have to wait until I get home and can open it up and get the exact model number, etc.

The battery is 7.4volts.

You can power it via the 5volt micro usb power connection but I’ve read some notice a degradation in SQ without a battery supplying the full voltage.

But don’t power it with 7.4volts via the 5volt connection. You’ll fry it.

There was a mod carried out on the older mojo to bypass the 5volt circuit and power via the battery connectors. A particular power supply was needed although.

I always use my Mojo 2 plugged into power and almost never with battery power. However, for some reason, my battery is totally dead and causing noise. If nobody knows where to get a battery, I will open it up when I get home and find an exact replacement battery or maybe unplug the battery and try it that way.

The Mojo 2 has the battery bypass feature built in so I don’t know why the battery died and is causing the noise issue.

I have a Mojo 2 also.

The Chord Mojo 2’s Intelligent Desktop Mode is a battery management system that activates when the device is fully charged and left connected to a power source. This mode regulates the charging process to prevent the battery from overcharging and extend its lifespan.

Meaning it’s not powered directly from the 5volt supply.

OK, never mind. I switched to a different adapter and power cable and all is good now. I’ll have to see if the battery charges and holds a charge, but the noise problem is solved.

@moderators , please close this thread.

That may be the reason the battery has failed, ni-cads & lithium batteries need a regular charge/discharge cycle to maintain their performance, “charging” a fully charged over a period can cause the battery to fail…just sayin’ :frowning:

Your welcome @Jim_F

Glad I helped

This is true (although no longer relevant as it has been established that the battery was not the issue). However, the use pattern for longest lifetime is different for Ni-Cad batteries and Lithium Ion batteries.

Ni-Cads like to be fully charged and then fully discharged in order to prolong their life. Continously maintaining any given charge level is a sure-fire way to kill a Ni-Cad battery.

Li-Ion batteries by contrast, shouldn’t be held at full charge (even when not charging) for extended periods and shouldn’t be fully discharged. The general advice for extending the lifetime of a Li-Ion battery is to charge to 80% and then discharge to no less than 20%. Continuosly maintaining a charge level anywhere in this 20-80% region (by periodic, short charge periods) does not harm a Li-ion battery in the same was as it does a Ni-Cad battery.

My understanding is that the Mojo2 Intelligent Desktop Mode operation does more less that. It charges when necessary to prevent the battery charge level getting too low and it stops charging well before the battery charge level gets too high.

Agreed….:+1:t4:

Thanks. The actual problem was the cable. I switched to another one and all is good. I ordered a longer USB A to micro USB cable for use at home. All is good with the Mojo 2. It is a great DAC.

EDIT: Mojo 2 running on battery power all afternoon. Battery is fine. :joy_cat: It’s still on green (40% to 75%) after 3 1/2 hours.
