Restoring A Roon Nucleus Backup to an Apple Mac Mini

Can a Roon Nucleus Backup on a USB drive be used to restore a new Roon install on an Apple Mac Mini?

Pretty sure Roon is platform agnostic in that regard.

Thanks. It doesn’t really matter since I’m going to use the Mac Mini just to reboot my Nucleus when needed using Splashtop when away from home. But I thought I would install Roon on the Mac Mini so it can also restore Tidal and Qobuz connections on my Nucleus when/if needed. I may not even put a watched folder or linked services on the Mac Mini.

Why would you need a full install and database? All you need is to install Roon as a client to do what you want.

Where and what is the Roon client app for an Apple Mac Mini? Thanks.

Ah, the Roon client app is the same as Roon. When you install Roon on a machine which has another core on the network, the install asks if you want to connect to the core, in which case you install just the client, or if you want to use this machine, in which case you install the client and the server.

Thanks. All I really want, at this time, is the client, but couldn’t find it. Thanks for paying attention to what I’m trying to do here and helping me.

EDIT: I guess the reason I didn’t know this was I started with Roon on my laptop before I switched to a Nucleus. So, I never had the option to just install the Roon client.

Yes, that is correct. Once installed as a full install the only way to go to a clinet, is tonunonstall and then reinstall. The only time it really matters is if you load roonserver along side a full roon gui install on the same pc.

I know nothing about a Mac Mini computer. I suppose, when it arrives, I will plug in a keyboard and HDMI to TV and see what’s what. Is the Splashtop install the first thing I should do?

Looks like this is going to “work a treat” as some of you would say. My used Mac Mini arrived this afternoon (thanks @7NoteScale) and, although I have never used an Apple computer, it didn’t take long to get it all going. I installed Roon client and Splashtop as well as Google Chrome. I’m now able to see and control the Mac Mini using my Dell and the Mac Mini is acting as a client to my Nucleus. I just have to make sure it works over the internet, not just WIFI. And, thanks again @Rugby

I just paid $16.99 for a year of Splashtop and all is working as expected. I used my iPhone hotspot to connect my Dell to the internet over cellular and it was able to control the Mac Mini with no issues.

PS: The above picture was just during the install and setup with keyboard and TV. The Mac Mini is now tucked away in our main bedroom behind a TV and plugged into a switch with my Nucleus and RPi4, etc.

EDIT: I’m somewhat amazed at how well this works.

This is Roon client running on Mac Mini as viewed on Dell using Splashtop with and without full screen. I think I finally got the resolution figured out.
