Rhino Quadio

Just purchased the Steven Wilson mix of Van Morrison’s Moondance. Spoken from someone who has a 7.2.4 system and owns hundreds of multichannel audio discs (SACD and DVD-Audio) the Atmos mix is the best multichannel recording I have ever heard.

Yamaha RXA 3080 receiver
Marantz 7055 5 channel amp
Rotel RB 971 MK2 amp
RBH MC 6T towers
RBH MC bookshelf surround back
RBH 44 and 661 surrounds
RBH and Klipsch subs with Klipsch and NHT atmos speakers
RBH R56ci center channel

Denon 1713 Universal Disc Player

indid buy Aretha live in quadrphonic along with Bloodshot from The J.Geils Band. The Geils album I am very familiar with sounded incredible. Aretha was magical.

Very limited catalog, but cannot say enough about these titles

Agreed, some Quadio releases are very very good. Note that only a limited number of Rhino re-issues contains an Atmos or surround remix, most Quadios are just well-executed remasters of original 1970s quad mixes.

The Spinners - same is very good as well as Joni Mitchells Hissing of the summer lawns´ and court and spark´. And Roberta Flack´s ´Killing me softly´ of course, and Chicago ´X´.

I was impressed by the quadrophonic “effect”. Very immersive. I will no doubt try a few other titles.

Don’t want to sound disrespectful but, considering this is a forum about Roon, are you saying you’ve been able to listen any of these, let’s call them “exotic” formats with Roon?

I’m particularly interested because I also own several SACD and DVD-Audio discs (no Quadio, though, but very interested considering they tend to be cheaper than other formats) but have only been able to extract the multi-channel mixes from very few of them.

Other than directly from streaming services that support them, I haven’t found a RELIABLE and repeatable process to get the audio of those physical media into Roon…

This is a forum for music enthusiasts. This is a forum that embraces high resolution audio. Anything that drives interest in high resolution audio is under the umbrella of Roon. It is DVD Audio and SACD that led me to Roon.

If there is enough interest in multichannel audio then maybe Qobuz and Roon will advance their software like Apple has.

So yes, this belongs here

Why not? Except from Atmos, roon is pretty capable of handling exotic formats other than 2-channel stereo, it is even calling 4.0 material ´Quad´.

It is a matter of the right piece of software and knowing how to handle every single case. Plus hardware in case of SACD. The process cannot be repeatable as different formats require different methods.

I doubt that it’ll work out like this, as streaming services seemingly choose to integrate Dolby Atmos in the first place, which is so far not compatible with roon´s internal handling of music streams (and I doubt it will ever be). Tidal offers both, roon integration and Dolby Atmos, and there is no hint that this will be usable combined in this or that way.
