RIP Stephen Gould

One of the greatest operatic voices of our time, Heldentenor Stephen Gould, has gone way way too early. I have a vivid memory of several fascinating live performances and a great guy who could be funny and easy while mastering the most demanding tenor roles with ease. His record of performing more than 100 times at Bayreuth opera festival speaks for itself.

Difficult to choose an appropriate recording as Stephen Gould was surely a ´live guy´ among opera singers. I will go for Wagner´s ´Siegfried´ from 2013 as it is not only the role demanding the maximum of endurance from a tenor (sung in a concert hall in this case so you the orchestra sound is much more massive compared to any opera house) but also being the type of light hero that Gould represented exemplarily.
