ROCK - adding a USB drive - can I map to it to add files?

I added a USB thumb drive to my Rock to test how it works. I added the folder to watch via Roon client but it doesn’t have any music yet.

Can I map to it and add music remotely, or do I need to manually copy music to the drive from another machine? That’s a pain each time I add stuff. Would be better to be able to synch it on to the USB drive.

Thx!!

Is your ROCK on a NUC?
see here for info:

I mapped the “\\Rock\data” directory and have an internal drive for music storage (in addition to the OS drive so a second internal drive) in you NUC/rock along with a USB drive attached and they both show up under the “storage” directory like this:

So you should be able to map the lower level directories.
How will depend on what system (PC or MAC) you are on.
You should be able to use the path in the KB article to get to the directory you want to map.
Post if you need help, but provide info on device you are accessing from so that the proper guidance can be given.

Also, depending on how much data you are transferring it could be faster to connect the USB drive to the computer you are transferring from vs transfering over the network.

Is this what you mean ?

Go to Settings> Storage

click Add a Folder and select

You may have to put the files and folders into a 'MusicLibrary" folder like mine .So that you have ONE folder to select.

i just added this one ,you can see its still scanning

@Mike_O_Neill My understanding is that the OP already did what you show in your post (added the USB connected to the Rock server device as a watched folder).

I believe they are asking whether they can map the network drive/directory on their PC or MAC client/remote so they can add music to the USB connected to the ROCK server device. Which is what I responded to and told them that they can do.

Yes a re-read, you are correct

One test you could try . I maintain my master library on my Main PC and after any changes I SYNC the master to the internal SSD with mappings as described by @bearFNF

Great - I’m loading data to the //rock/data/storage folder right now and Roon is scanning the new files.

Mapping and scanning the thumb drive’s also working. So I need to buy a bigger faster drive to be my permanent SSD cache.

I think I’ll still leave the original files on the regular NAS and periodically copy them over, just because of the RAID and cloud backups that are all working OK. Especially now that I fully committed and sold most of the 1000 CD’s I’d ripped and had in storage for the past 5 years since I started this journey.

Thanks for your help!

If you are moving lots of files I would recommend shutting down the analysis until all files are transferred, Roon sometimes has issues identifying albums while they’re being imported if there are too many. Results in split albums or mis-identified albums.
Either disable the watched folder, turn analysis off,
Or shut the sever off in the webui.
