Some routers work ok as switches but quite a few don’t so best practice and at minimal cost is to connect devices to a network switch and then have a single connection from there to the router, you will read all kinds of stuff about improved, degraded, night and day difference for different switches and associated power supplies, but the reason I have done it and suggest doing it is for stability.
