Well, I have no idea if and when Microsoft will decide to stop production on the Surface Dial. It might be better to have one as a backup ![]()
But the world keeps turning!
I will soon start building a Roon Extension for the device above so that it can be used as a controller for Roon
It’s the so called Quick Keys controller from xencelabs.
It has a rotary knob surrounded by a colored LED ring with a button in its center for Volume (Shuffle) and Start/Pause. Additionally eight buttons and a display that shows how the buttons are assigned. The whole thing will of course be configurable in the Settings of the new Roon Extension. ![]()
Left of the display there is another button with which you’ll be able to switch between different layers of button assignments.
Suggestions how to name it roo??? (rooQuick, rooX,…) are welcome ![]()
The Quick Keys is of solid build quality and has approx. the size of an iPhone and also its weight. The best thing: no Bluetooth but a separate USB dongle as a wireless receiver like the SpaceMouse offers. This will probably ensure very reliable operation
A built-in battery for power supply that can be charged via USB-C.
Summarly:
At first glance, the Quick Keys makes a very good impression on me and seems to be a worthy successor to the Nuimo.
So maybe it’s better waiting for the new Roon Extension for the Quick Keys than getting a second Surface Dial ![]()
