Ok - working now -stay tuned
Was tun?
Hi @Jorg_Bonke,

Hi this week I managed to get new in box MS Dial and Raspberri Pi zero W 2. I got everything working and purchased a roodial license. I am getting persistent restarting of my Rpi. I see now online that RooExtend 3.x will not run smoothly on this RPi. Is this true? Is it possible to get a stripped down version of roodial that will not overload the Rpi zw2? Your Roodial sellcodes site still states: âThings you need using the rooDial software: Installed Roon; Microsoft Surface Dial; RaspberryPi zero w or even better a Raspberry zero w2âŠâ Between crashes/restarts my extensions are in Roon, my dial is connected and I can control the music. I hope there is a solution to this problem.
Hi
With Pi Zero W 2 you can and should use the latest ARMv8 Release of rooExtend which will upgrade to v3.5.x after applying the necessary hotfix.
Nevertheless if you encounter disappearing rooExtend this probably is a WiFi issue. WiFi has to be rock solid using rooExtend.
Pease check out the rooExtend System log by opening the browser with the IP of rooExtend. At the end of this page you find the âShow System Logâ button that displays the log. Please send it to info@definiteAudio.de and I will analyze what goes wrong.

Thanks sent you follow up by email.
For anyone looking at this thread, I have to say DrCWO is the best when it comes to customer service. Back and forth through the day sharing my system logs etc., and he cracked the issue. My desktop had an installation of Roon Server that was in conflict with my Roon core running on a NUC. This was causing the rpi Zero W2 to cycle off and on again. Solution was to uninstall roon & roon server from my desktop and then reinstall roon only on the desktop. restarted the core and Pi. Now everything is stable. 100% control over my Blusound Node. Only have playback control on my Zen Stream which is an Ifi problem, for that I need to dig into the zen stream settings and see if it can be resolved. Thanks DrCWO for all your help. Five star service.
p.s. MS Co-pilot suggested my RPI Zero W 2 could not run RooExtend, this was totally incorrect.
Hi,
I too am stuck trying to get my Dial to work properly âŠ
- I have installed rooExtend on a RPi4, and it appears within my LAN via wifi.
- I have rooExtend License Manager & rooExtend rooControl showing up within my Roon > Extensions, and âactivatedâ them
- I have re-booted both my Roon ONE and the RPi
- I have recently purchased a rooDial license, and pasted it in to the relevant box
- Within License Manager I have selected rooDial, and given it the name ârooDial Officeâ
- The screenshot below looks as though everything should be OK LAN-wise
- I have long pressed the pairing button on the Dial, and checked that the batteries are OK
- If I click on the rooControl Settings, the only available options are Pulse GPIO 17/27 and Raspberry GPIO 5
However, I canât get the Dial to control Roon.
EDITED TO ADD:
OK - I have made some progress - it now says âUnpairedâ, but despite pressing the small button under the Surface Dial - and the flashing white light - I canât get it to change to âPairedâ
Where might I be going wrong / what else should I check?
TIA
Hi @Julian_Berry,
as you have setup rooExtend on a Pi4 anything should work.
You need to install the License Key and after that see in Roon Settings/Extensions not only the Roon License Manager but also rooDial.
If you came so far please:
- power off your Pi4
- power it on again
- Watch Roon Settings/Extensions and wait for rooDial to appear
- Now press the button.
The pairing is open for a limited time after start of rooDial. Trying to pair later will fail.
This is why you should rund the power Off/On sequence first.
The Dial should blink and after pairing blinking will disapear.

Many thanks for that; after unplugging the RPi4 for a few minutes (& therefore no Extensions showing within Roon / Settings / Extensions), I then powered up the RPi4; watching the Extensions page âŠ
- the rooExtend Manager appears first - checks the license, then checks for a USB stick (which correctly it doesnât find one)
- then the rooControl and rooDial load; the rooControl says âselectedâ, but the rooDial says âUnpaired, LSXâ (the âzoneâ I want to control within Roon is some KEF LSX speakers)
These 3 extensions stay showing for maybe 30 seconds, then they drop off the page, no Extensions show. After another 30 seconds the 3 Extensions re-load, and the cycle repeats. Whether I press the Dial pairing button seems to make no difference to the cyclical loading / unloading.
Do you know what I may have done wrong to cause this cycling?
TIA
This is not normal at all.
Please find the IP of your rooExtend at the end of the License Manager setting page, open the browser and enter http://[your IP]
This only works if rooExtend is active!
Find the button to show the system log and mail it to me to info@definiteAudio.de
I will analyseâŠ

I donât seem to be able to create a new post here. Iâm running RooDial v. 1.11 and my license no longer works. Iâm pretty sure that I bought a lifetime license, but I canât log into SellCodes without my old CC number, from 2021. I no longer have that credit card. The dial does work, but I canât adjust any of the settings. I do have a license # I can send you. Thanks.
Hi Andrew,
first of all please e-mail you License Key to me at info@definiteaudio.de so I can check.
Next I need to know on what platform you are Pi Zero, Per Zero 2 W, Pi 4 or a rooExtend-Box.
I also donât understand what you wrote. I you open Roon Settings/Extensions. Can you see the rooExtend License Manager and rooDial?
If yes can you open the settings of rooDial and select the playback zone?
What can you read in the status line of rooDial?

DrCWO,
Roon can not see my previous extensions. I installed a new Wi-Fi router, now my Extensions say, No Extensions Discovered. I can open Extensions/Authorizations/View but only option is to remove roonExtend and remove rooDial. I cannot Enable them. I have rebooted my RPI, and Roon ROCK.
Hi @ROB_BREWER
some questions:
- Is the Pi connected via Ethernet or via WiFi?
- What Pi are you using
If connected via WiFi please check out the Quick Installation Guide in my Download area on how to connect rooExtend to the WiFi.
