Roon 1.2 (Build 147) is live!

Hi everyone!

New maintenance releases of Roon, Roon Server, and Roon Bridge have gone live, with a number of bug fixes and interface changes.

The biggest change in this release relates to how Roon stores file paths. In the past, these have been platform specific, tied to the operating system your Core runs on. As more and more users move between platforms, we’ve identified some issues in this area, and going forward Roon will handle file paths internally in a more universal way. This change necessitates some changes to Roon’s underlying database.

Once you’re running Build 147, your database will be upgraded to the new format. While we’ve done extensive testing on this process, we strongly recommend that everyone make a backup before installing this release, especially if you’ve changed operating systems in the past.

Making a backup is easy, and will help if there are any issues during your database update. It will also be the only way to roll back, as the new database format is not compatible with older software versions.

Elsewhere, this build includes full branding and support for a number of hotly-anticipated Roon Ready devices, including the PS Audio DirectStream, DirectStream Jr, and PerfectWave DAC, and the Bryston BDP-1 and BDP-2. Check with the manufacturer to ensure you’re running the latest firmware and enjoy!

This release also contains a number of simplifications designed to streamline Roon’s interface, as well as fixes for issues related to DFF and AAC files, blank screens on iPads, sleep settings on OSX, unavailable tracks, and more.

Over the last 2 months, we’ve kicked off work on a Roon Control API that will allow for 3rd party control of Rooon. We’ve also worked with @crieke to release Roon Server packages for compatible QNAP and Synology devices, hired 3 new staff members, and overhauled our cloud services as we lay the groundwork for significant improvements to Roon’s metadata.

Lots more to come, so thanks in advance for everyone’s support and feedback over Roon’s first 13 months!

Roon 1.2 (Build 147) Release Notes

Roon Build 147 is now live for OSX, Windows (64 Bit), and Linux. Build 149 has been released for Windows (32 Bit). Updated versions of Roon for Android and iOS have been submitted to their respective App Stores and will be available upon approval.

An additional build has been released for 32 Bit Windows Installations only. The new build resolves an issue related to database migrations that only affected users running the 32 bit version of Roon on Windows, which should automatically update to Build 149 for now.
