Roon 2.0 Build 1373 and ARC Build 237 is Live!

Hello Everyone,

We’ve received a lot of requests for playlist enhancements over the years, and our recent customer survey confirmed how important they are to many Roon users. Today, we’re taking the first steps toward significantly improving and expanding Roon’s playlist capabilities.

Thanks to your feedback, we’re aware that playlists are just as important as albums for many users. We look forward to your responses to these changes as we continue delivering robust tools that answer the needs of playlist lovers.

Introducing 2-way playlist sync

The most significant change in today’s release is the addition of 2-way sync between Roon and playlists in TIDAL, Qobuz, and KKBOX.

Changes made to streaming service playlists will continue to sync to Roon. But starting today, you can make changes in Roon, and they’ll be relayed back to streaming service playlists.

You can always add content from the streaming service hosting the playlist, such as adding Qobuz tracks to a Qobuz list, and see those additions appear in Roon.

But now, you can also add tracks to streaming lists from your local library or other streaming services. Roon will attempt to match those tracks with available content on the service hosting the list, tell you how many songs were found, and then update the list in your streaming account.

Complete playlist control

This release also includes several valuable tools to help you manage your playlists.

To start, we’ve completely redesigned Roon’s sidebar to provide instant access to your playlists. We’ve also expanded the playlist browser functionality and added folder organization. Playlist power users can now create all the genre, mood, artist, era, theme (or any other) folders they’d like. This is a long-standing feature request among our avid playlist curators.

The new browser makes playlist creation and browsing more intuitive by allowing you to quickly navigate to streaming lists and “read-only” playlists imported from local watched folders or your iTunes library.

Now, when you click “Add To Playlist,” you’ll have immediate access to your most recently updated playlists, along with the ability to browse or filter all the playlists in your library.

Further enhancements include the ability to move or copy playlists into folders or to streaming services. When recreating a Roon playlist on a streaming service, Roon will attempt to match all the tracks, tell you how many songs were found, and then create the list on the streaming service - all with a single click.

The new playlist browser adds powerful filtering functionality so you can always find the playlist you’re looking for - even when you can’t remember exactly where it lives!

We’ve also expanded access to playlists across user profiles. If multiple listeners in your household make playlists, Roon will automatically organize those lists in top-level folders and make them available to everyone. No more jumping profiles to search for your wife’s party playlists. And she can quickly locate her favorite playlists in your profile.

From now on, everyone in your household will have easy, immediate access to all the playlists created in Roon - regardless of profile.

We’re excited to deliver on several long-standing playlist feature requests and look forward to your feedback on these changes.

Thank you for reading and your continued support,
The Team at Roon Labs
