Roon 2.0 not supported on my tablet

You don’t need to install Roon ARC if you don’t want to use it. It’s just an app for iPhone and Android phone. And, if you don’t plan to use Roon ARC, you don’t need to fool around with your router. Just install Roon 2.0 on your Roon core and install Roon Remote 2.0 on your control devices. Get those from the App Store.

Thanks for that info, Jim, and for your helpfulness.

I don’t know why, but I can’t get the Roon 2.0 Core to work. I can’t get it to see my Roon endpoint (a SOtM SMS-200 UltraNeo). Roon 2.0 sees my external TB drive that has the music, but It won’t “load” the content. Have no idea why.

I don’t know anything about Mac’s, but make sure your Mac meets the new minimum requirements. They are listed in one of the Roon post from early today.

When your ISP router is in bridge-mode. So that it’s transparently “bridging” all trafic (no NAT) and your own router is getting a public ipaddress on it’s wan-port. (Just check.) Then the only thing you have to deal with is your own wifi-mesh- router. No need to call your ISP just fix it yourself. Or let someone fix this for you. It will only take a couple of minutes.

Hi Bennard

<<Could it be you are “the Amateur.”

Of course I am the amateur! That is the point of my post (admittedly not made very well).

I am the amateur customer paying for the product, Roon are the professionals charging for it. We are music lovers for goodness sake, not IT professionals. If we are expected to possess such specialist knowledge to get Roon to operate as stated, then that fact should be there right up front and centre, together with the guaranteed means to gain that knowledge or direct help with it.

I should not be expected to dig around in this forum seeking what I need from kind (and unpaid) folk such as yourself.

And thanks for your help btw …

Nick

Just wanted to point out that not every user has the luxury of chosing an internet provider where he is not locked out of everything. In some countries, there’s just no alternative.

15 posts were split to a new topic: My ROCK will not update from 1.8 to 2.0

I agree. I have a locked down ISP (Australia). The modem is a piece of crap and so I use a mesh. Which means I have to have a degree in managing my network to make Arc work…I know it ain’t easy but as a long term roon user isn’t it supposed to be easier not harder ? Unusable for the average punter

And so I have the much awaited Roon 2.0 without Arc - big wow

Installation / configuration of the router was not as easy as suggested in the Roon app but also not at all as difficult as I assumed it would be and all worked fine within 20 minutes of downloading.
I am not sure if hackers could find the specific port that I have ‘open’ now and if they could hurt my laptop through that peephole.
When I am outside my home I mostly have other things to do and listen to but I will try it out more and see.
The same feature was built in JRiver’s player long ago already so it’s not new to me but as always ROON makes it all look mich more beautiful.
The announcement video seemed to suggest it was a feature aimed for 1) a multibillionaire in his car on his personal cross-lake road to his futuristic island/mancave 2) teenage ballerinas and 3) lonely but happy young art gallery visitors

Same here on Madeira Island (Portugal). No access to my ISP router. I don’t need ARC, so I just hope I’m not affected in any other way when I upgrade to 2.0 today.

I think it is ridiculous that an update will not work and is arranged so that it leads to total non functionality. And that the company doesn’t have more detail to trouble shoot why. I appreciate the forum usually helps out but this idea of completely outsourcing support is not functional. pity as the interface is otherwise very good (when it works).

So if I don’t need ARC, do I just update to 2.0 and ignore it, without worrying about changing any settings?

My Roon ARC experience was different, but not positive as well.

  • iPad App notified me “Try new roon 2.0”. I quickly checked the “More Info”, all seemed fine. So I installed the app.
  • After starting the iPad app, a message “One of your cores is not ready” or similar appeared. Could not connect to my roon server any more.
  • Tried to update the server, it was not offered in the app. Then I found that my MacOS (Mojave 10.14) is not supported for roon 2.0. OK, and now, how to fix this? Again, found the roon downgrading FAQ. I needed to manually download and install a “legacy” kernel. But …
  • first I need to search for the “roon 1.8 legacy” iPad app in the app store (btw, when searching in the app store for “roon” keyword it was not offered).

So, after successfully reverting everything to “newly installed” legacy versions I am now back up and running on MacOS Mojave with roon 1.8.

Simple solution would have been: Do not offer the roon 2.0 ARC remote app if the SERVER Operating system does not support updating the roon server to 2.0. Or at least give a hint explaining this.
That would have saved me 2 hours of investigating and fiddling last evening downgrading to 1.8 production1x server.

I had exactly same experience. OS Mohave on Roon core iMac. My iPad and iPhone had done auto update to Roon 2. Then wouldn’t connect to my core with 1.8 since it cannot update to Roon 2. I quickly turned off app updates on 2 other devices so I could still use them as remotes. I found the remote legacy app and installed on the devices that had auto updated to remote 2. That did not work to connect to core. I found the page about downgrading to core 1.8 and link to 1.8 Legacy app. I have not installed that yet because I need to know it won’t screw up my core. Why can’t 1.8 legacy remote iOS app simply connect to previous core 1.9? This could have been much better explained. I’ll probably upgrade my 2015 iMac to Monterey but I still use a few favorite old 32 bit apps.

Legacy roon 1.8 (build 1126) production1x works fine for me on MacOS Mojave since I installed it last night. So I guess it’s OK to install.
Btw, the iPad roon 2 install did reset all my iPad settings for the legacy roon client, perhaps because I uninstalled the roon 2.0 app first. Needed to re-config everything in the iPad roon 1.8 legacy app.

Hi all; I too just installed 1.8 Legacy build 1126. iMac 10,14 Mohave. Worked fine and 1.8 legacy app on remotes is connected. Ok for now it appears. May update core to Monterey soon so I can test Roon 2 but I’ll wait for a couple bug fix updates to Roon 2 before I do.

I for shure know how you feel. But some things in life (very few relared to roon) are a bit more complicated. Not very, just a little bit. But anyway did you manage to get things going or do you need some help. If you want I could assist you.

A point that I’m acutely aware of as my provider uses CGNAT and they were the only provider I could use so I’m stuck with a double NAT problem to solve.

However, I could choose to pay a professional rather than try to solve it myself or complain I can’t.

Jim_F, I posted this earlier today.

AT&T: Enter the modem set up via IP address > Firewall > IP Passthrough > Set to “Default Server” > Choose from devise list or manually enter your 3rd party router’s IP address > Save.

Easy peasy.
