Roon 2.65 - it was faster for a while, not so much after a while

You should rather stop this habit . Except in case of using nucleus hardware or ROCK the update procedure doesn’t seem to be aware of your system being compatible or incompatible with a roon software update. Thus, you may brick your individual roon server installation any time you update blindly without reading releases notes.

This is the reason why a nuс server was created.

Fair enough. In the other hand, there are a lot of weird bugs in Roon that run counter to what you would expect. This entire page illustrates that pretty well.

You have other issues such as network connectivity etc. I haven’t seen Server run this consistently in years, if ever. I use an 11th Gen i7 NUC; no reboots since the update, and it’s as fast as ever. Can’t wait for even more performance improvements, but I could live with this update forever.

You should open a support ticket to diagnose your problems. Best of luck.

Not notably faster on my M4 Mac. Bottom half of home page still slow to load. I like the random album feature a lot so overall satisfied.

PS: Approx 80k tracks, 2317 albums unidentified, mostly boots. No way I’m going to put them Musicbrainz.

I noticed that, too, although everything else seemed snappier.

I wasn’t really bothered by the speed before so I’m fine with it.

This is usually determined by network performance and Roon’s cloud infrastructure.

Thank you all for staying active on this and for taking the time to share your symptoms and logs - it makes a real difference.

Some good news: once the first reports started coming in last week we began digging through the codebase looking for the culprit. We found a potential mismatch in how background metadata jobs were being scheduled. We don’t believe this is the root cause of the performance issues but it is contributing to the overall behavior and may be masking other problems underneath. We had an out-of-cycle release planned for tomorrow that addresses this alongside a few other issues.

I’ll keep working on getting to the root cause. In the meantime it would be really helpful if you could share updates with us after the release so we can see what’s changed.

Thanks again!

A couple of observations (still on 2.65):
After reboot (haven’t figured out if is only unexpected reboots, or also planned) one is requested to log in to Roon again? It seems to be happy with any saved token on the device in use though.
Never seen that before..

Upon restart of Roon Server manually (quit/start) as well as completing the login procedure, Roon has become quite demanding on machine resources.

How do i know? Well i have a machine with a hardware issue which i haven’t gotten around to fixing, it runs just a smidge low on some of the ATX voltages. So whenever the machine load goes topside the machine may become unstable and reboot.
Now, since 2.65, this is triggered by start up of Roon…

That Roon seem to trigger this is not a complaint, just an observation and a comment on the effects of a more optimized framework.
However, the need to renew licensing is unwanted, unless the tokens have expired.

Roon still faster at my end with large library and MacStudio as the Core and so far so good with Roon ARC on iPhone17 Max

Create a ticket. This isn’t normal behaviour and seems isolated to your installation.

This is not normal behaviour, and nothing to do with the general discussion in this thread. I recommend you open a Roon Technical Support request. Please follow this link to provide the details of your case to Technical Support: Technical Support Request.

I just use the coffee machine , while the first cup is brewing I restart the Roon Server , that’s if a stray thunderstorm hasn’t forced it in the last day or so

Before the maintenance windows I would have suggested “max cores” at bedtime , reverting to 2-4 cores during potential listening hours. You can select Unscheduled and get the old method . So I would maximise time at full cores

Just as good as my way in truth and I am just having my first cuppa coffee with music this morning

Thank you :folded_hands:t5:.

2.66 Updates not yet available for ARC in Google play, and no update at all for 2.66 on Amazon.

Apple App Store has been slower than usual as well.

Yes, same issue with ROCK on a NUC. Really getting fed up with it.
