Hello. I wanted to share my sincere gratitude to all the Roon Developers and Support team. Since releasing the latest updates back in early August, Roon and ARC are running perfectly for me.
I’ve been a lifetime Roon subscriber since 2016 or so. Here’s my setup and story.
All music I have is downloaded and stored on a NAS. I have 404K tracks in my home library and I don’t use the streaming services. So, it’s all local library. Through the years I’ve upgraded equipment to try and handle such a large music library. I would have bad buffering issues and random restarts with Roon when the memory got too large. In the last few years, I purchased a Sonic Transporter i9 to run Roon Server. I had 32 GB of RAM installed in the Sonic Transporter and that made a big difference. Ran much smoother and no more drop outs or random restarts. But Roon still ran slow after the memory build up. And then Roon ARC was implemented. I love being able to listen on the road, but I had issues with memory again - I think? The iPhone ARC app would randomly shut down and I’d have to delete and re-install. Throughout these issues, I keep testing regularly after software updates, but the Roon lagging and ARC random shutdown continued. I also have 2 optical rendu’s and 1 ultra rendu at home for streaming in different rooms in my home. Basically, I went all in with Roon. I’ve been a huge fan of the AllMusic Guide and knew Roon was a perfect fit for me. But I’ve had my issues.
I’m glad to report that the recent software update in early August (Roon 2.71 and ARC 1.81) has shown dramatic improvement across the board. I’ve been testing and using it daily ever since and here’s my findings.
- Roon Server on the Sonic Transporter runs flawlessly. Artist searches are instantaneous and even the artist “info” loads immediately. Playing songs in Roon has never been faster. There simply is no more lag. And here’s the thing. I don’t have to reboot once the memory builds up. There’s no slowdown after over a month of using Roon Server. Just runs perfect and the speed never wavers. This is a major success and I can’t thank the Roon Developers and team enough. It’s really transformed my Roon experience.
- Roon ARC. This is a great app I use on my iphone, but I’ve had many issues in the past. Mainly the app shutting down on me after playing a song. I’d have to re-install and it would work for a few weeks and then happen again. Glad to say, that is now fixed too! I’ve been using since the last update and no shut downs. And it runs way faster too. And when I add music to my roon server library it immediately updates in Roon ARC. Once again, it now runs flawlessly.
So, I just wanted to share my success story. A major improvement to my favorite music program.
I’d love to hear feedback from others too. But my setup with the Sonic Transporter running Roon Server is now a perfect match. It all runs beautifully.
