Hey Everyone,
We’re excited to be releasing new versions of both Roon and Roon ARC today! This release includes a number of improvements and additions to both apps, including a new way to customize the display of your playlists and an improved, overhauled playback experience when using Chromecast.
We’ve also upgraded Roon’s drag-and-drop functionality, Live Radio playback, handling of Classical compositions, and scrobbling, made additional improvements to Roon’s performance, and added waveform display for streaming content.
Mobile-only issues are also included in this release, with better support for the Magic Keyboard on iPads and various Android issues addressed clients. The work to improve Roon’s performance and stability are a core part of this release, as we continue address feedback sourced from the Community and our support team.
Custom covers for local playlists
Roon will now let you add custom “cover art” to your Roon playlists! You can visit the edit screen or hover over the playlist image to pick a new custom image that matches your playlist’s mood.
Note that this is only available for your Roon playlists, and the edit functionality will only be available in the desktop and tablet clients:
Google Cast Improvements
The new build includes improvements for Google Cast device discovery on your network, along with overall playback stability improvements.
If you have Chromecast Audio devices, Google Home, or other devices that play via the Google Cast protocol – this change is our effort to upgrade and enhance your listening experience when using your gear.
Windows taskbar playback controls
For Windows users we added taskbar playback controls support. You can now control playback directly from the Windows taskbar: hover over the app’s icon to play, pause, or skip tracks without switching windows. It’s a quicker way to manage your listening while you work in other apps.
Shuffle Improvements
Shuffle now gives you a more varied selection. You’ll hear far less of the same artist or album back to back, and tracks you’ve heard recently will make way for ones you haven’t played in a while. It works everywhere you shuffle – in the browsers, on album and playlist pages, and with the Shuffle toggle in the queue.

Installation
Updated versions for Android and iOS have been submitted to their respective App Stores and will be available soon.
Cores, remotes, and ARC installations already running Roon Production should update automatically. If you need to reinstall, the latest builds can always be found on the downloads page.
