Lifetime could continue in principle but eventually become ad based, right in the middle of a piece of music “now for some words from one of our sponsors …”
Or link with Roon 2.x.x, you want Roon 3 ? Pay for it …
good point
I dislike all the OTT bloat Samsung add to Android phones, the Samsung store, it does nothing to enhance Android IMO. I just hope they don’t do it to Roon. I think they were after RAAT & everything it offers.
Speculation is futile. Questions are not.
Apple Music does play on my latest Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Samsung Tab S9 Ultra. In Lossless audio too. Install Apple Music App direct from Google Play Store in phone.
Was their any email sent to users about this. I have not had one but I did turn off marketing stuff a while ago when I kept getting lots of garbage about the Roon store. Just wondering as there is a lot of users are not using the forum. Nasty shock to find this out 2nd hand.
I understand you like apple. But hnd how does it refer to the topic of the discussion?
Roon/Harman must have something up their sleeves to keep justifying its price tag.
Roon may not have any direct competition yet, but streaming services are closing the gap with better app interfaces, better at suggestions and already can stream to multiple end points, including equipment like the Wiim Pro, which can also manage local libraries, and who knows how many other similar Chinese streamers will pop up in the future.
Surely it will never be the same seamless first class experience as with Roon, but on the other hand it’s worth noting a Wiim Pro can be had for the same amount as only one year subscription of Roon, and that’s quite something.
Usually this type of events follow one of two roads:
road A
Harman keeps roon staff, honors roon values, continues developing the product and keeps growing the customer base. That’s the best outcome.
road B
Harman restructure roon staff, screw roon values, mutate the product to something that suite their needs, loose customer base.
Companies that are only interested in raw cash, finance charts, profit and loss, and not understand that money comes from happy well served customers will inevitably fail.
Time will tell where roon will land eventually. I really hope Harman took road A instead of B.
Maybe this means that Roon can reduce support delays to something less than a month
Forgotten what I was saying here…
I’m hanging on every word……
Or……I don’t know, I was really drunk at the time……
And how often does Road A happen? I will say rarely in my experience.
With Harman ?
Haven’t they been keeping the brand and identity of the companies they purchased ? At least the most known ones.
Tell that to Logitech , who bought Slim Devices and wrecked it.
I think @SteadilyFred is well aware and this was a rhetorical question in response to what was said before
The original post in this context was:
Yeah probably. Samsung and Apple are big cellphone competitors as everyone knows.
And yet …
How long do we have to go in circles about this?
Apparently Samsung/Harman MIGHT be able to find road A on the map better than most.
1. Governance Structure
Post-merger integration (PMI) processes are inherently tricky. Despite the intended good intentions, there exist numerous incidents of PMI failure. According to a report by Deloitte in 2015, over 90% of M&As did not generate the expected value or return on investment. M&As may help firms acquire knowledge but not guarantee its creation [25]. This could be due to differing characteristics of knowledge bases, effects of structural integration, or environmental contexts of the transaction [26,27,28]. At the employee level, anxiety due to changes in status, responsibility challenges, the learning of new routines, new policies and cultures, an ‘us vs. them’ dynamic could lead to demotivation, stress, insecurity, and a sense of inferiority [28,29,30]. This can further lead to the departure of key personnel such as star scientists and engineers as they feel they are not being fully recognized in the newly merged organization, defying the very purpose of gaining access and creating new knowledge. Hence caution to not create too much disruption with the M&A event is critical for a successful PMI process.
Samsung became the parent company of Harman following the M&A. It oversaw all of Harman’s existing operations such as Harman’s personnel, labs, headquarters, and facilities, as well as all of its customers and master brands like AKG, Lexicon, Infinity, etc. Samsung was especially careful not to disrupt the organization autonomy and the dynamics of Harman with the desire to preserve the company’s unique capabilities for continuous innovation. It did, however, make some leadership changes, where Mike Peters became the Executive Vice President and President of the Connected Car Division at Harman beginning April 2017 and Nick Parrotta became Chief Digital and Information Officer. Other general managerial level HR was left intact
