Roon acquired by Harman International [Feedback]

How does the mirroring of the Eversolo look on an iPad? Can you post a screenshot?

Aww no love for the radio huh? It usually starts out with good intentions

As long they are still selling lifetime after Harman (Samsung takeover is final) its ok. Another thing is what is the future for roon. That is big mystery. They could separate ā€œoldā€ Roon with lifers from new version like Audirvana did and you are still forced to decide to start paying or leave it. We shall see.

Ok that is great!

Nah. They likely have an earn-out so they’ll remain motivated to hit various financial targets to maximize their earn out. Of course, we have no idea what the components of the deal were - but safe to say, most founders that are lucky enough to get all of their money up front in a sale walk away and go start another startup. If they are sticking around its because the buyer wants them there for at least the integration of the business unit and to see through some projects that may be in flight already. But having been there done that, I’d bet there is an earn out tied to financial performance metrics. Near term, it could mean things will continue to appear normal to us mere mortals. But at some point, they end up working for an SVP that moved from a completely unrelated division of Samsung and they’ll start hating life and the buyer will start to squeeze them harder and harder…because, most buyers aren’t overly motivated to pay out the full value of an earn out.

Okay I need to stop thinking about it…I love Roon but feel pretty jilted having just been lured into a lifetime subscription. But it is what it is at this point - pondering the future is pointless. I’ll enjoy the ride the next 6-12 months and see what happens.

How do local files vs streaming work?

I certainly won’t do the Jimmy Hoffa trophy work for you

Partnered, as in ā€˜depending on Roon as the nbr 1 solution for controlling all kinds of harman products’.

Like a lot of audio brands do because developing and maintaining good software costs a lot of money, more so that developing audio products and most audio companies don’t have that money and certainly not the know-how. I don’t see them dropping Roon for an alternative solution anytime soon.

I agree. So does Roon, the main app. It doesn’t, it routinely has bugs that take forever to be addressed.

If stability is the primary concern, use apps by companies with the resources to make quick patches or more stable software, to begin with.

Thanks we’re getting way…………off………

Sorry, I didn’t follow this portion of the thread, but that looks really cool. Which app is that?

The Eversolo dmp-a6 , as @kc1 reminds me it has its own topic area. It’s a really great little piece of kit.

Actually, now that I think about it, I will start using Audirvana 3.5 (which I own) over UPnP to my dCS Rossini Apex. It works fine and the Audirvana remote isn’t bad at all.

And there’s also dCS’s Mosaic which sounds amazing and can play Qobuz, Tidal, and local files served by Minimserver. And it supports Tidal Connect and Spotify Connect (hopefully if and when Spotify goes lossless, they will add such support to Mosaic).

One issue I have with Apple Music is that, although its probably the service with the most tracks, my list of albums added as faves is a mess and not nearly as complete as Qobuz and Tidal. I could use Soundiiz to transfer my Qobuz and Tidal faves but I have not done so yet.

I see. That maybe something I’ll look into when I have a home stereo system.

I don’t understand what products use Roon integration that is deeper than RoonReady.

Have some examples?

ELAC and Roon Essentials comes to mind
(still works just fine btw)

Maybe I am just lucky that none of my gear is dependent upon Roon, I had two pieces of equipment that were Roon Ready and I was late to the party and now if the party is going to be over prematurely ……. Que Sera, Sera

Like the Boy Scout in me required, hope for the best but plan for the stuff to go sideways.
