Roon and one-hit-wonders

Hi,

What are folks doing with one hit wonders, where the artist never really had a good whole album, whats the best way to deal with them in Roon nowadays?

Happy Holidays!

Buy the track and have an incomplete album. Lord knows I have many.

I did something years ago that should work .
I just merged all those odd one hit wonder tracks and made an album that I then just named “One Hit Winders”

Or just create a tag named “one hit wonders”, when you focus on that would bring them all up too.

This works but it has a couple of drawbacks. One, you don’t have the album artwork reliably for each album, and two, you don’t have the album year set in a way that allows you to aggregate it with other period music.

Also, you can’t easily see the TiVo metadata for such albums.

Agreed but I think the latter method of just adding a tag would retain the original artwork and any metadata provided it was present on said one hit wonder track to begin with.
Or at least one could massage the artwork and metadata to suit if all kept as single tracks.

Yeah, in the UK I grab the occasional compilation CD for the odd track. Plenty in the charity shops. These are packed with one hit wonders.

I tend to be a completist, so if I didn’t already own the album/CD, I would probably just add the whole album to my library from Tidal/Qobuz, and then create a playlist of the hits. (Or as @AceRimmer suggested, tag those specific tracks.)

This assumes you’re subscribed to a streaming service, as well as purchase/download music…
