Roon App interrupts ongoing playback

Is there any way on iPhone or iPad to prevent an ongoing playback (for example, a podcast) from being interrupted when opening the Roon app? Roon acts solely as a remote control for me, and the iPhone and iPad are never used as a streaming endpoint or client. I often find it very annoying when an ongoing playback on my iPhone is interrupted when opening the Roon app, even though I might just want to browse through albums or edit metadata without listening to any music. Is there a solution for this?

Must be an Apple thing, just tested here, and the same happens when I open Qobuz App or even iPeng App to control my LMS, and I couldn‘t find a workaround either.

This does not happen on Android, for me at least, so it must be a setting in iOS?

Have you tried disabling the local zone in Roon? Maybe if it does not have an Output/endpoint to control it won’t take focus or pause (or whatever it is doing) the currently playing app?

Edit: here is a response from an Apple “Community Expert”:

We understand audio is pausing when using some apps to play music or audiobooks and you open an app like Netlix. This is expected behavior for some apps. It’s likely they assume you’ll be listening or watch something with audio. If there isn’t a specific setting in Settings > Netflix, then there isn’t a way to change this behavior. If this is something you’d like to see changed, we recommend contacting the app developer as explained here How to contact an app developer.

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Search for the app, then tap it. If you can’t find it, tap the account button or your photo at the top of the screen, tap Purchased, tap “Not on this [device],” then tap the app.
  3. The app’s product page appears. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then tap App Support. If you don’t see App Support, make sure that you’re signed in with the correct Apple ID.

There is no setting it’s just its default behaviour. It also stops ARC from playing to.

There is a difference. Roon Arc is a streaming endpoint by definition. So one might argue that in this case the behavior mentioned actually makes sense.

But on the remote app it doesn’t.

I think you may have misunderstood what I wrote. Roon app stops arc as well not just YouTube etc it’s any app that uses audio. Not that ARC stops it which is obvious it would do.

Never had this happen in android.
