I was trying to use the Roon ARC in my car via CarPlay. Since I drive about 6,000 km per month, a traffic announcement (TA) that starts automatically is important to me. But it doesn’t work when listening to Roon ARC, although the TA turns on, it immediately switches back and I have to manually switch to listening to the radio twice in order to listen to the TA. When listening to music via Apple Music, everything works as it should. It seems to me that Roon ARC is dragging with CarPlay who will be in charge For this reason I am not using ARC for now.
Welcome to the Roon Community.
I’m a fellow Roon user like you.
Also like you, I drive a lot for work. I use Roon Arc on my Android smartphone, and Android Auto.
I use Google Maps for navigation, and I use it even if I know the route I’m driving. I do this as Google Maps is great for advising of traffic issues up ahead and also redirects me (prompts for approval) if it finds a better route.
I have also used an iPhone and again used Google Maps, preferred over Apple Maps. I had the same experience as above but using CarPlay.
Side note, I prefer CarPlay over Android Auto, but prefer Android over iOS.
As you posted this is in the Roon Software Discussion it’s unlikely Roon staff will see it.
So I hope you don’t mind, I’ve moved it to Feedback as this is monitored by Roon staff.
Thank you for your reply and for moving my post to the correct category. I have been using Roon for a long time but this was my first post. I haven’t had a reason to post questions yet because Roon works perfectly. I use Waze for navigation and still use it even when I know the way, for the same reasons as you. Traffic Announcement (TA) is part of the radio and has nothing to do with navigation.
Fully understand you on this
I don’t use TA via my vehicles head units radio. My reasons for that are that I use to find it’d come on telling you of an issues 100 miles away in a different direction. Can’t remember the last time I actively used TA.
I just rely on Google Maps, wake on the Air Con and play some music. Less interruptions of my music is my preference.
