So I went for a long walk in the woods today where the signal was not particularly great and if I’m honest I was very disappointed with how Arc behaved. Clearly I don’t understand it well enough and I would thought I would ask a couple of questions to see if someone can put me straight
So obviously I understand if I get no signal I go into offline mode.
In Offline mode can I get Roon radio? Can roon radio work with my existing albums that have been downloaded on my phone? Is it possible or does it need an internet connection to figure out what songs are going to be applied for radio?
Secondly when I’m in offline mode and I have these tracks and data what can I do with these songs ? is it possible to make playlists in offline mode or do they all have to be done manually when I’m at home physically one track by one track?
I guess in essence I’m just trying to figure out what are the features and possibilities in offline mode so that I don’t have to keep faffing around with the phone and “nothing to play” keeps popping up.
Or maybe someone can direct me to an article which gives all the options which will be really helpful
I think you’re right I think it’s very limited functionality. shame that we can’t do more with it when it’s in offline mode but I guess it needs to talk to the server to figure things out
Maybe just the ability to have some random playlists… I’ve check on the genres as well
I honestly think Roon should just abandon arc at this stage. Plenty of other options exist. Selfishly I am worried what happens if tidal an d/or qobuz go tits up. I hope they are working on ways integrate other services and yes I have read the excuses why they don’t now a million times.
If you setup your ARC with offline music. You’ll have your playlists and you can shuffle all music. Therefore if you loose signal, you can just switch over to the downloads section and continue playing.
This would be no different to any other streaming services. If you haven’t got signal, you’re not playing music.
OP, it will be worth exploring your local library and set it up via ARC. Test all the functions offline using your local music.
I think we will always have a lossless streaming service integrated. If anything I can see Roon eventually buying a music streaming service to exclusively integrate into Roon.
Apple Music there was discussion but the issue is the data associated with the service.
I doubt we’ll ever see Apple or Spotify agree to integrate their services into Roon. I think Amazon is unlikely too. They want people on their platforms where they can monopolise their listening with algorithms etc.
I have always wondered why Deezer isn’t in the Roon ecosystem. Seems like an obvious collaboration for both parties.
Its not an excuse to not integrate other servies, the other services do not want to give Roon extended API access, not much Roon can do when they are not interested in integrating.
If it was up to Roon im sure they would have integrated them all.
Why do you think Roon should abandon Arc? Its a great app that gives users the ability to bring the Roon library outside network, a big benefit to the a large number of users.
