Roon ARC offline mode without login

I am using roon ARC offline. After some time I need to re-login again and there is no way to get it back to offline mode without reconnecting. If I forget to do it before I leave I am stuck. Is there any way to allow remote authentication or allow offline mode without need to connect to the local roon server? This is annoying.

How long are you offline?

OK. Thanks. I could not make it work with just internet. I seems it requires login to my core. I will need to check it again but it did not work last time I tried.

Yes, that too, but you need to do this only once.

After the first log-in, it needs to perform a first sync with your Roon server. This is best done at home while on wifi. (But it also works remotely IF you have port forwarding set up (or Tailscale) so that the phone can reach your Roon server, and the connection is reasonably fast)

After this is done, the phone will also need some sort of internet connection once in two weeks. For this, it only needs to be able to reach the Roon cloud, not your personal server.

What would be handy is the feature to automatically turn on Arc offline mode when on mobile data and revert to online mode when on Wi-Fi.

True. (But it seems the issue here is that the OP never logged in while the server was reachable, IIUC)

Exactly my experience

Seems like core is needed. I think it will be a real improvement to allow offline mode without it. I don’t see a reason I can’t use downloaded content already available on the phone any time. It already happened to me a few times I forgot and could not use ARC. I hope it will be improved.

See if there is a feature request and post one if there isn’t: Feedback > Feature Suggestions

However, there is already other software that works completely offline with offline files. You can just use this.

Roon already explained elsewhere (regarding periodic license checks being necessary for the Roon Server) that their lyrics partners (and perhaps other metadata providers) require periodic accounting of, e.g., lyrics usage for copyright reasons.

There are lots of ways to listen to music offline, but if you care about playcounts, tags etc - you want to use Arc. Offline mode certainly needs to be improved. Hopefully one day

I know. That’s why I’m using ARC and persevering. But these goodies need at least an occasional server connection to work well.

However, the OP here seems to be talking about using ARC without logging in to the Roon Server. In that case, none of these things can happen.

And for reasons mentioned, occasional connection to the Roon cloud will always be needed, too.

It’s true that offline mode needs improvements. Not losing album covers all the time for starters.

Other suggest could be automatic refresh. Even when not it use, when I am home it can have a kind of automatic refresh (detecting wifi) and when core is available.

You can already do that, I think. On an iPhone, you can create an automation in the Shortcuts app that launches an app based on the phone’s location. I suppose Android has something similar.
