Roon ARC on Mercedes Android Auto - playback settings

On my new Mercedes’ Android Auto, Roon ARC refused to play. That is, it did a few seconds and then stopped, however the ARC’s “now playing” showed it did play, without sound.

With an AI’s help it was found that the Mercedes is very picky on the sample rate. Roon ARC tries to go hi-res (96/192kHz) but apparently the Merc wants max 48kHz.

OK, I changed to CD quality and that indeed fixed it.

All good and well, that’s for in the car. But at work I listen Roon ARC with B&W Pi8’s and there I want the max quality.

Remembering to change this setting each time is a burden, so if the good people from Roon ARC would foresee a possibility from the home screen to select a choice of “playback profile” that users can set up?

Or a setting that selects automatically on Android Auto?

Thx !!!

You won’t detect the difference if you leave it at 48.

If you really want Roon to consider your request, you need to post it where they will see it in the feedback section.

Thanks. I copied it over into the feedback (that’s a first for me).

And you may be right: my ageing tinnitus plagued ears will probably not know the difference…

Me too. Anyway, I’m not sure anyone can hear the difference.

I’m pretty sure some people hear the difference. But not with their ears - with their wallet !

But the absolute maximum sample rate aptX Lossless offers is CD quality.

Therefore, no need to change the settings for cellular data, simple keep it the same as in-car.

MUSE settings have playback profiles that can be associated with each of your environments.

I forgot about this because it is applied without intervention.

Indeed a nice way! I didn’t realize it did this without intervention. I better delete my feature request

The Muse listening profiles don’t govern the playback quality, you would still have to change that every time in the settings. But you don’t have to change anything since AptX is maxed out anyway

They can be used to govern sample rate conversion.
