Roon ARC Parametric EQ Preamp

I can’t see Preamp setting in Roon ARC Parametric Equalizer MUSE. Where is that?

Headroom Management is what you use.

Please clarify: You are showing what appears to be a workaround for ARC not having the preamp slider like Roon, or is it the case that Headroom Management and the preamp slider in Roon are functionally the same thing - headroom - and there is no need to have 2 settings in ARC?

It’s confusing to combine them.
thanks

Preamp slider? You referring to the slider on the right on the peq graph? If so you don’t need that you just apply headroom management it does the same thing. This is available in Roon also as part of the Muse settings, Roon just gives two different ways to adjust the headroom, ARC the one. Headroom adustment applies an overall reduction in headroom to prevent clipping, which is what that slider does. In ARC it can be set to automatic or you can set it to a level of your choice.

Makes sense - they both accomplish the same thing.

A question, rhetorical here, is why in Roon are there the 2 settings and in ARC only one.

I use both settings in Roon: Typically, I use preamp as a separate setting because it is used in parametric EQ files that way. e.g…:

Preamp: -9.30 dB
Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 105.0 Hz Gain 11.4 dB Q 0.70
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 55.8 Hz Gain -6.9 dB Q 0.83
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 194.3 Hz Gain 1.2 dB Q 4.18

I set it with the slider, then, if distortion occurs, I use Headroom Management to add more headroom. Good examples are tracks with heavy bass that cause distortion and require additional headroom beyond the preamp setting. That way it’s not changing the basic EQ setting for that HP.

I would prefer to see consistency in ARC, the 2 settings.

Thanks for the response, its informative to see how others use it.

That’s a good question but likely down to the UI choices they made for ARC. You can’t actually do any DSP via Roon on mobile at all other than choose presets only the tablet or pc apps allow the full DSP UI.

Have you seen this?

That’s ARC not Roon. Roon this is all you get

I missed “on mobile”. I don’t use Roon on mobile, my reference was to Roon on desktop.
