Describe the issue

A few days ago I thought I sent a mail saying I could not get Roon Arc port forwarding working. I’ve had zero tesponse

Describe your network setup

TELUS Fibre box to AX5400 WiFi 6 router to Roon NucleasOne

Hi @rixon6,

Thanks for reaching out.

Based on your description, I’m assuming Telus is your internet service provider? They’ve recently implemented Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation (CG-NAT) across accounts, if this report is accurate from their forums.

CG-NAT will block port forwarding above your account level - it’s outside of Roon’s control, unfortunately.

There are two workarounds:

  1. First, you can reach out to Telus to request a dedicated external IPv4 address.
  2. An easier option is to use the Tailscale interface built into RoonOS on the Nucleus One. See here:

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks!

I spoke with Telus. 1) only businesses get static IPs. 2) The fellow did not think they were blocking ports but I now know how to log into their NAC so will work on that.

If Telus is blocking ports some gamers wont be happy and their is an alternative in town called Rogers.

Hi @rixon6 ,

Thanks for the update. If getting a static IP is not possible, you may want to try Tailscale or a different ISP as you noted. Do let us know if that helps solve the issue!

Hi @rixon6,

If you are using a Mac as your RoonServer machine, Tailscale is nearly plug-and-play to set up as an alternative to port forwarding.

I recommend following the steps here rather to save the hassle of direct negotiation with service providers:
