Description of Issue -
What is the exact port forwarding error message you see in the Roon Settings → ARC tab?
Roon ARC worked until I had a problem where Roon Server stopped working - got that fixed just today with help from Asustor - it’s under another topic.
Having gone through setting up ARC with manual port forwarding, I went to do the same, set it up with a dedicated port on the modem, but in Roon’s own screen I now get a message whichs says that " port is already in use" regardless of which port I put in (I tried many, while making appropriate changes in the modem settings), it doesn’t even try to do anything. The port box is always circled in red. There isn’t the usual box with the copy/pasteable code that was there before. Here’s a screenshot
I don't know if it is relevant, but when I go to the ARC app on my phone, I get three different Roon Server options, two of which refer to the same device (the correct one). Here's a screenshot of that as well, but the main issue seems that I can't move past the above screen regardless of the port picked and appropriate changes I make in the router settings

Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
Reinstall the RoonServer App from our Downloads Page to generate a new RoonServer folder
Next, go the Windows machine and repeat these steps.
From there, when you open the Roon app, select the Asustor server when prompted and restore the Backup to re-associate the machine with your current DB.
If you’re still encountering port forwarding errors, I recommend trying a different port range in Roon Settings and any manual port forwarding rules you’ve created.
Just went through all the steps and that has absolutely nothing. No change whatsoever. Roon app isn’t even trying to check a port - it just says port not ready by default before even any port number is inputted. Isn’t it at least supposed to show the IP address of the RoonServer?
As you can see, it’s not doing even that
Thanks for giving those steps a try. We appreciate your effort.
As an alternative to resolving the port forwarding issue, you might consider using Tailscale to connect your ARC device. Many of our users find this option to be simpler and more reliable in certain network environments. You can follow this article for instructions on setting it up with a NAS.
That said, if you’d prefer to keep troubleshooting port forwarding, we’re more than happy to continue working through it with you. Just let us know what you’d like to do!
I’m certainly sorry to hear this! How is your usual Roon Server connected to your router / network? Are you able to temporarily simplify the connection? See if you can set up a direct ethernet cable from your server to your primary router. Reboot both, and see what your Roon Settings > Roon Arc look like.
If you no longer wish to troubleshoot, we understand. We’ll be here to help if you change your mind!
The most likely culprit here is Carrier-Grade NAT on the part of KPN, who is in the process of transitioning to this infrastructure in place of dedicated IPv4 for their residential accounts. This will block port forwarding out-of-the-box with RoonServer. Plex has native NAT traversal which ARC does not offer at this time.
We suggest Tailscale as a sideload for robust NAT traversal, but if you’d prefer to wait until ARC develops a NAT traversal solution that is native to the app, then we of course understand.
