Roon ARC with Starlink + Tailscale Funnel?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been on Starlink for about 2 years now. The service itself is solid, but the CG-NAT situation has been a constant headache for Roon ARC. My workaround so far has been manually toggling Tailscale on and off on my phone to get ARC to connect, which gets old fast.

I recently moved my setup over to Unraid, where Roon Server is running great. I’ve also set up Tailscale Funnel with Google OAuth for remote access to other services.

So here’s my actual question: could I configure Roon ARC to work through Tailscale Funnel? The goal is to stop having to toggle Tailscale on and off every time I want to use ARC remotely.

Thanks in advance!

There’s no need for this unless you use another VPN on the mobile device (neither Android nor iOS can have more than one VPN running at the same time.) Otherwise, set Tailscale to always on.

Tailscale Funnel may work–I haven’t tried it–but it would be better to use the standard configuration. Although Funnel creates a reverse proxy you’ll still be running a VPN as before, so my opening comments still apply.

Thanks for your answer. I have read that running Tailscale 24/7 might increase battery consumption. I am not sure if that is 100% true.

I am not sure that I completely understand how to make Tailscale Funnel work, so that’s why I am asking on how possibly that could work.

Since Tailscale is only routing traffic for ARC, I don’t think it will have a signifixant impact on battery performance.

Unraid supports Tailscale, so use the standard setup and configuration. There’s no need to use Funnel.

OK then, I will be following the always ON approach of Tailscale app. Lets see how this goes.

In any case, it would be awesome to be able to channel this whole thing through Funnel eventually. The authentication happens through Roon’s website, so it would pose less risks compared to other funnel-ed containers.

Thanks for your answers my friend.
